Job summary

National Park Service seeks a Maintenance Mechanic to oversee maintenance, cleaning, repair, and preservation of built structures in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, including buildings, docks and boardwalks. The role requires a valid Class B CDL, U.S. citizenship, and a background check.

Uniforms are provided, and probationary terms may apply. The position covers facilities in the Midwest Region (Van Buren and Eminence, Missouri).

Job description

You will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic with National Park Service overseeing the maintenance, cleaning, repair, and preservation of built structures such as buildings, docks, and boardwalks. The Midwest Region, Ozark National Scenic Riverways, includes two facility locations: Van Buren, Missouri, and Eminence, Missouri. Salary Range Information: Rest of United States Southern Missouri Wage Area WG-4749-09: $25.69 - $29.97 per hour.

Major Duties

• The duties of a Maintenance Mechanic include: Perform journeyman-level work in multiple trades-primarily carpentry, painting, plumbing, masonry, and roofing-including construction, alteration, repair, layout, and finish work using power/hand tools, shop mathematics, and applicable codes/standards Operate, maintain, and repair water and wastewater systems, including pumps, filters, valves, gauges, chemical feeders, and instrumentation; interpret process data and make adjustments to ensure regulatory compliance. Troubleshoot and perform lower-graded electrical tasks (per plans/diagrams and the National Electrical Code) to install, repair, or replace wiring, controls, fixtures, and minor system components. Operate heavy equipment and vehicles (e.g., graders, tractors/backhoes, dump trucks) and perform road/grounds/asphalt maintenance (grading, patching, crack sealing, drainage upkeep) safely and effectively. Follow safety and compliance requirements (e.g., respirator fit, chemical handling, PPE; outdoor work in varied conditions; documentation) and maintain tools/equipment in safe working order.

Qualifications

Qualifications: All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/24/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted.
