Job summary

International Paper is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic for its Columbus, GA plant. The role focuses on maintaining production equipment, performing monthly PMs, and developing electrical troubleshooting skills as part of a cross-trained maintenance team.

Ideal candidates have at least five years in industrial mechanical maintenance, experience with lubrication, hydraulics, pneumatics and welding, and a willingness to work nights, holidays and overtime. Training will begin on days.

Qualifications

  • Five years of industrial mechanical troubleshooting and repair experience.
  • Safety, attendance and quality of work are essential on the job.
  • Maintenance experience in corrugated industry is a plus; lubrication, hydraulics, welding and pneumatics knowledge required.
  • Excellent teamwork, cooperation and problem solving skills.
  • Willingness to fully cross train in other technical areas to enhance capabilities.
  • Willing and able to work all shifts, call-ins, holidays and overtime as needed.
  • Able to work with a computerized maintenance management system.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain production equipment at the Columbus plant and support monthly PM inspections.
  • Develop basic electrical troubleshooting skills (fuses, motors, etc.).
  • Lead major projects such as roll changes and coordinate with maintenance team.

The Job You Will Perform:

The Mechanic is expected to be proficient in all IP safety requirements, including, but not limited to: LOTT, Arc Flash, Hot Work, Radar and Lockout Exception Forms. He/she is expected to have the job specific skills necessary for all monthly PM inspections. The A Mechanic is expected to provide maintenance support to all production equipment at the Columbus plant. He/she is expected to be competent in all mechanical skills (pneumatics, hydraulics, bearings, power transmission, lubrication) and to begin developing fundamental electrical skills necessary for basic electrical troubleshooting (fuses, motors, etc). The Mechanic is expected to be a fully functional maintenance person, demonstrating job specific knowledge and leadership skills during major projects such as roll changes.

  • At least five years industrial mechanical troubleshooting and repair experience.
  • On the job success in safety, attendance and quality of work expected.
  • Maintenance experience in corrugated industry a plus. Strong knowledge of lubrication, hydraulics, welding and pneumatics required.
