Qualifications
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates safe work practices and ensures compliance with all safety programs, policies, and procedures for themselves and those working around them.
  • Maintains courteous, professional, and responsive interactions with vendors, contractors, employees, and operational crews while fostering collaboration and respect.
  • Works closely with Vancouver Head Office (VHO) on maintenance projects, capital improvements, budgeting, purchasing, and cost‑control initiatives.
  • Supervises Maintenance Lead and Maintenance Supervisors, Longshore Millwrights, UGC Electricians, and electrical administration functions, while overseeing preventive maintenance programs and repair activities.
  • Coordinates with Production to plan and execute routine maintenance, emergency repairs, and special projects to support terminal operations and achieve the best overall outcomes for UGC.
  • Responds to maintenance and operational troubleshooting callouts as needed.
  • Partners with the Safety Manager to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and environmental requirements, including WISHA, EPA, Department of Ecology, One Call, and other governing agencies.
  • Works closely with Electricians and contractors on project planning, purchasing, scheduling, and execution. Ensures all electrical work is performed in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and safe work practices.
  • Provides oversight of electrical administration activities, including apprenticeship documentation, electrical licensing requirements, training records, contractor coordination, and compliance reporting.
  • Provides or coordinates training on critical safety programs, including confined space entry, hot work, lockout/tagout, and other required safety procedures for employees and contractors.
  • Monitors conveyor systems, automated controls, and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) to maintain efficient operations and identify equipment issues.
  • Observes, evaluates, and assists with troubleshooting mechanical and electrical equipment to identify maintenance needs and prevent operational disruptions.
  • Assists with project estimating, planning, execution, monitoring, and cost control for maintenance and capital improvement projects.
  • Ensures Electricians and electrical contractors comply with all applicable state electrical laws, regulations, licensing requirements, and industry standards.
  • Develops, implements, and continuously improves maintenance and electrical programs to maximize equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and workplace safety
  • Serves as the designated Electrical Administrator for the facility and is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable state electrical licensing requirements, apprenticeship standards, permitting requirements, inspections, and electrical code compliance
Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED degree and/or equivalent training required. Four‑year degree preferred.
  • 5 years of experience supervising maintenance employees, responsible for budgets and purchasing, knowledge of safety and compliance programs, knowledge of working with Longshore, Millwrights and Electricians.
  • Is a Washington State Certified Electrical Administrator
  • PLC and control systems experience preferred.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills in conjunction with good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment – both in proximity and practice.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems and wiring.
  • Must be able to read blueprints and follow a plan layout so electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures based on job specifications and codes can be installed.
  • Must be able to utilize a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps.
  • Proficient in the use of test meters and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Must be computer literate with proven ability in the use of spreadsheets, database, and word processing software applications within a Windows‑based operating environment.
  • Requires the ability to read, write, and comprehend written and oral operational and safety instructions and related rules, policies, and memo, and communicate clearly with your coworkers and supervisors.
  • Must be able to make decisions and work independently, and detail oriented.
  • Ability to express or exchange ideas in English by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to customers, public, and convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced and stressful environment.
Physical Demands and Requirements

This position can be physically strenuous from time to time. Exposure to grain dust and ability to work in this environment is required. Employees must be able to work in tight and confined spaces, walk, climb, bend, kneel, lift, grip, grasp, push, and pull various tools and equipment. May be required to ride a belt lift and occasionally work at significant heights with requisite balance and equilibrium. Ability to frequently lift, push, pull up to 50 pounds and occasionally more. This job will require the ability to ascend/descend ladders. Personal protective equipment, including hardhats, gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes, and respiratory protection and ear protection are required. Vision that permits close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. When grading grain, the ability to identify and distinguish colors is also important. Must be able to see color to discern color‑coded wiring. Ability to detect odors and the ability to understand and discern safety warning systems. This is a physical job that includes both indoor and outdoor work in all types of weather/temperatures. Flexible with work hours - must be prepared to receive phone calls and respond to company‑related needs at irregular times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
