DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Deliver excellent service in all interactions with guests and clients, adhering to Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards. Ensure the hotel is well-maintained and clean through effective processes and procedures.
- Train staff adequately and provide necessary tools and equipment for their roles.
- Collaborate with the General Manager to recruit, train, develop, and manage the Maintenance team.
- Possess specialized knowledge in plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, and equipment mechanics.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on building interiors and exteriors, including hotel rooms, laundry, kitchen/refrigeration equipment, lighting, HVAC, ventilation, water systems, pools (if applicable), and snow removal.
- Conduct preventive maintenance as per the PM Works program, including inspections, meter readings, and record-keeping.
- Manage inventory, order supplies, and minimize waste.
- Report hazardous situations, emergencies, or threats to security.
- Maintain and test all hotel life safety systems.
- Assist in preparing the department's annual operating budget.
- Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication with other departments.
- Oversee human resources activities within the Maintenance department, including recruiting, onboarding, training, performance management, and offboarding.
- Ensure adherence to hotel standards, policies, and procedures within the maintenance department.
- Manage and report on the use, maintenance, and storage of all departmental supplies.
- Handle procurement of maintenance supplies, utilizing appropriate platforms and analyzing hotel spending for efficiencies.
- Implement service recovery guidelines via PM Works to ensure guest satisfaction; respond courteously to guest inquiries and complaints.
- Promote safety by using protective equipment and uniforms properly.
- Act as "Manager on duty" as required.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety laws at all levels.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS :
- Vocational training plus two years of experience in building maintenance or construction, or equivalent education and experience. Certification and licenses as required by law.
- Experience in the extended stay or apartment building maintenance management preferred.
- Knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, electrical systems, and equipment mechanics.
- Ability to prioritize, organize work, and communicate effectively in English; additional languages are beneficial.
- Proficiency in reading and writing to document tasks, order supplies, and read manuals.
- Basic math skills, including budgeting and profit/loss analysis.
- Problem-solving, organizational, and training skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office preferred.
- Ability to travel, including overnight stays.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Physical ability to stand, bend, climb, kneel, and move about the facility; handle objects and equipment; work with chemicals; lift up to 75 pounds; work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
