Job Description
The Maintenance Manager is a member of the Engineering team and has full accountability for all maintenance activities. This position is responsible for organizing the maintenance processes in a manner that will directly impact efficiency, cost management, quality, safety, customer satisfaction, and work system improvement.
- Maintain a preventive maintenance program for all production machinery to enhance production and decrease repair and maintenance costs.
- Train and coach maintenance personnel to increase skill levels within the department and improve equipment reliability.
- Effective planning and purchasing.
- Focus on reaching operational excellence.
- Further develop and maintain metrology expertise.
Key performance measures will include safety, customer satisfaction metrics such as on‑time delivery, waste reduction, and spare parts inventory.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage activities of the multi‑shift maintenance crew, delegate maintenance work to ensure timely completion.
- Inspire high performance through effective goal setting and performance measurement.
- Initiate, implement and manage the plant maintenance program based on good manufacturing practices with an emphasis on planning/scheduling, calibration and preventive/predictive maintenance.
- Communicate regularly with all maintenance staff, both individually and as a group, to ensure good two‑way communication concerning maintenance issues.
- Manage and report on key metrics used to monitor progress to strategic plans and overall performance.
- Train and coach maintenance technicians to troubleshoot and problem-solve. Schedule training to improve maintenance repair performance.
- Monitor use and maintain inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies and equipment. Establish optimal spares inventory levels to ensure effective maintenance operation.
- Ensure compliance with all internal and external regulations including but not limited to cGMP, safety, SOPs, Quality System policies, etc.
- Monitor and control the costs associated with the Maintenance Department to reduce costs from previous years.
- Ensure maintenance contractor compliance with plant safety and GMP requirements.
- Participate as a member of engineering project teams regarding all areas of maintenance.
Qualifications
- B.S. degree in engineering required.
- 8+ years of experience in a maintenance or facilities department with a history of increasing responsibilities and demonstrated leadership.
- Previous supervisory experience required.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment utilizing TQM, ISO, Lean Manufacturing, and/or Six Sigma is preferred. Must exhibit technical knowledge of the concepts.
- Solid understanding of maintenance systems to include metrology and preventative/predictive maintenance.
- Computer systems knowledge including experience with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), RS Logics. PLC programming, SAP a plus.
- Pharmaceutical experience is highly preferred.
- Ability to motivate, train and delegate responsibility.
- Demonstrate thorough understanding of mechanical and electrical problems.
