The Maintenance Manager position involves independent judgment and is accountable for maintaining all equipment and managing maintenance functions at the division. The Maintenance Manager oversees fleet maintenance to ensure DOT compliance and safety, is responsible for scheduling and coordinating service schedules, and supervises mechanics, welders, and other shop personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains the division's fleet of trucks and equipment by scheduling and overseeing repairs, preventative maintenance, service schedules, and analyzing equipment repairs and wear to identify and recommend areas for improvement.
- Anticipates service problems and develops contingency plans to minimize downtime.
- Ensures inspection requirements are met in accordance with DOT regulations.
- Manages a staff of mechanics, welders, paint and body repairers, parts clerks, and other shop help. Sets schedules, assigns tasks, and provides training and direction related to fleet maintenance.
- Maintains a fully equipped service maintenance vehicle and assigns crews for on-road repairs.
- Maintains proper inventory levels to ensure availability of common parts.
- Researches recommended repair techniques and parts based on equipment type. Works with OEM manufacturers, suppliers, and vendors to stay current with repair methods.
- Implements controls to manage shop expenses effectively.
- Ensures proper housekeeping, organization of shop facilities, tools, and equipment. Enforces safety procedures and trains shop personnel in OSHA safety standards.
- Prepares weekly reports for the general manager summarizing shop expenses, payroll, road calls, out-of-service reports, vehicle maintenance, tire and fuel inventories, and mechanic activity.
- Ensures timely recognition or disciplinary actions in accordance with company policies, fostering positive morale among shop personnel.
Job Qualifications:
- A technical degree in Diesel Technology with 5-10 years of experience managing a diesel maintenance shop or equivalent training and experience.
- Ability to bend, stoop, sit, and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Valid CDL “B” license.
