Job summary

Synectics Inc. is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead daily maintenance operations at Tajiguas Landfill, Gaviota, CA. You will supervise a maintenance team, optimize preventive maintenance programs, and ensure equipment availability to support production and safety objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage daily maintenance operations, including planning and scheduling repair work.
• Supervise and develop Maintenance Supervisors and maintenance personnel.
• Ensure equipment is properly maintained, serviced, and available to support daily operations.
• Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive maintenance programs.
• Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical equipment issues and provide technical guidance to maintenance personnel.
• Establish and monitor maintenance KPIs, operational metrics, costs, and performance.
• Manage the maintenance department budget and identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
• Oversee maintenance work orders, repair tracking, and maintenance management software/CMMS.
• Manage spare parts, inventory, procurement, and parts optimization.
• Coordinate outside vendors, contractors, equipment repairs, and service activities.
• Lead facility upgrades, capital improvements, equipment replacements, and continuous improvement projects.
• Conduct and support root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Ensure compliance with safety policies, regulatory requirements, inspections, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Develop troubleshooting and preventive-maintenance guides, procedures, and documentation.
• Train, coach, and develop maintenance personnel while supporting employee engagement and retention.
• Monitor equipment and maintenance trends and implement corrective actions when deficiencies are identified.
• Participate in hiring, performance evaluations, promotions, disciplinary actions, and employee development.
• Prepare maintenance, inventory, financial, and operational reports for senior leadership.
• Maintain current knowledge of industry best practices, safety requirements, and applicable regulations.
• Support environmentally responsible maintenance practices and the organization's sustainability objectives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressively responsible maintenance experience.
• 5+ years of maintenance supervisory or management experience.
• Strong experience managing maintenance teams and maintenance operations.
• Strong knowledge of heavy equipment, heavy-duty trucks, automotive equipment, engines, transmissions, drivetrains, hydraulics, pumps, motors, electrical systems, brakes, emissions systems, and computerized diagnostics.
• Experience with PLC systems, starters, breakers, relays, and electrical troubleshooting.
• Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Experience developing and managing preventive maintenance programs.
• Experience managing departmental budgets and analyzing maintenance costs.
• Strong inventory, parts management, procurement, and supply-chain experience.
• Experience with maintenance management software/CMMS and work-order systems.
• Strong understanding of safety procedures, regulatory compliance, and LOTO.
• Proven ability to lead, train, coach, and develop maintenance personnel.
• Strong project management, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the waste management, recycling, landfill, MRF, or environmental services industry.
• Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
• Management or Maintenance Technology certification.
• Spanish-language skills.
• Experience with capital improvement projects and equipment replacement programs.

Education

A Bachelor's degree in a related discipline is highly desired. Relevant experience may substitute for education, with a minimum of 10 years of maintenance management and equipment repair experience.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position requires working around heavy equipment and mechanical systems in a loud, industrial, and sometimes dirty environment. The role may involve outdoor weather conditions, climbing in and out of equipment, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and working on concrete floors.

The employee may frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Weekend and/or evening work may be required. Appropriate PPE, including gloves, safety footwear, and hardhat, is required.
