Job summary

Welch Packaging seeks a Maintenance Manager to lead the maintenance department, directing equipment maintenance, preventative programs, and safety compliance. You will oversee technicians, schedule work orders, and ensure reliable plant operation through effective leadership and problem solving.

The role requires strong knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical drawings, and hands-on tooling, with a focus on safety and continuous improvement in a corrugated packaging environment.

Qualifications

  • Electrical certification preferred.
  • Corrugated packaging industry experience preferred.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and computer literacy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead maintenance technicians with coaching and mentorship.
  • Schedule technicians and plan preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain cost-effective preventive maintenance program.
  • Communicate goals and provide consistent feedback.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance on all machinery.
  • Respond to emergency work orders promptly.
  • Perform and supervise lockout/tag-out procedures.
  • Install, lubricate, troubleshoot, and repair equipment per codes.
  • Repair corrugated plant machinery per manuals and specs.
  • Read drawings and troubleshoot hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
  • Adhere to safety and environmental guidelines; participate in safety program.
  • Communicate equipment status clearly; share knowledge within team.
  • Prioritize safe engineering/maintenance decisions and drive productivity.
  • Maintain equipment to improve productivity, waste reduction, and quality.

SUMMARY

Maintenance Manager directs and coordinates activities concerned with design, construction, and maintenance of equipment and maintenance of facilities. Maintenance Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day management of the maintenance department, including professional support staff. Responsible for development and implementation of preventative maintenance program.

Maintenance Manager directs and coordinates activities concerned with design, construction, and maintenance of equipment and maintenance of facilities. Maintenance Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day management of the maintenance department, including professional support staff. Responsible for development and implementation of preventative maintenance program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all maintenance technicians providing them with leadership and opportunities to learn and improve.
  • Ensure proper scheduling of all technicians.
  • Manage and maintain a cost-effective preventive maintenance program.
  • Successfully manages through clear communication on goals, training, coaching, and mentoring. All while developing them with consistent feedback, and motivation through encouragement to enable their success and establish a positive working environment.
  • Schedule required Preventive Maintenance on all machinery.
  • Respond to emergency work orders within established parameters of timely response.
  • Performs Lockout/Tag-out per procedure for required operations.
  • Installing, Lubricating, troubleshooting and repairing equipment in compliance with plant codes, policies and procedures
  • Repairing and maintaining Corrugated plant machinery in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer specifications
  • Read and understand drawings, troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic mechanical systems including valves, solenoids.
  • Adhering to all plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies and procedures and actively participating in the safety program
  • Effectively communicating work performed and equipment statuses both written and verbally.
  • Sharing your knowledge and gaining knowledge from the rest of the team is essential.
  • Considers safety in all engineering/maintenance decisions and networks with supervision, management and others to ensure high-quality safety decisions.
  • Effectively maintains equipment to continuously improve productivity, waste and quality.
Requirements/Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Experience
  • Electrical certification preferred
  • Corrugated packaging industry preferred
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical machinery
  • Ability to use shop tools and equipment, drill press, shop grinders, welders, oxy-acetylene torch
  • A good understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • A strong trouble shooting and problem solving ability with practical, mechanical & electrical aptitude
  • Must be able to read and interpret both electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Must be fully computer literate with Microsoft environment

Must be able to wear personal protective equipment.

Work Environment

Exposure to moving mechanical parts.

Wet and or humid conditions

Office Setting, sitting for long periods of time.

Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles and vibration.

Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
