Job summary

Smurfit Westrock, a global leader in sustainable packaging, is seeking an hourly Mechanical Maintenance Technician in Conover, NC. The role blends primary machinist work with welding and millwright tasks in a job shop or maintenance setting.

You will read drawings, use micrometers and calipers, troubleshoot equipment, document repairs, and fabricate parts. Five to ten years of relevant experience and strong communication are preferred to ensure safe, precise maintenance.

Qualifications

• Ten years of journeyman machinist experience or five years with a two-year technical degree.
• Excellent communication skills are required.
• CNC and Non-CNC machining experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Experience in a job shop or maintenance machining environment.

The Opportunity

Conover is seeking an hourly Mechanical Maintenance Technician with the ability to provide primary Machinist skills with secondary skills in welding and millwrighting.

Key Responsibilities

• Ideal candidates will have substantial experience in a job shop, repairs facility, or in maintenance machine work.
• knowledge and hands-on experience with various measurement tools including micrometers, dial calipers, and dial indicators. Proficiency in working with all types of metals.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings. High attention to detail and precision in craftsmanship.
• Effective troubleshooting abilities
• Ability to read and understand equipment manuals & drawings
• Ability to properly document repairs and inspections
• Computer skills adequate to look up bill of materials & stores parts, enter work results, and complete work orders.
• Good working knowledge of rigging equipment and techniques
• Ability to measure, lay out, and fabricate repair parts

What You Need To Succeed

• Ten years of relevant industrial experience at a journeyman machinist level, or
• Five years of relevant industrial or military experience and a two-year technical degree
• Exceptional communication
• CNC and Non-CNC machining preferred
