Maintenance Lead - Castle Town Center

Department: Maintenance
FLSA/Classification: Non-Exempt/Hourly
Pay Rate: $21.00 - $24.00/hr - Depending on experience and other factors
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
Direct Reports: Maintenance Tech I - CTC
Location: Wesley Willows Campus - Rockford, IL

Summary:

The Maintenance Lead is responsible for overseeing the upkeep, repair, and safety compliance of the Castle Town Center. This role involves hands-on maintenance work, routine site surveys, and building system oversight, with a focus on customer satisfaction. As a key contact for staff, vendors, and visitors, the Maintenance Lead ensures efficient, professional maintenance services that create a positive experience for everyone on campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure the upkeep of the building, equipment, and living spaces by performing timely repairs and preventative maintenance to support a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment.
  2. Support the maintenance team by completing work orders and assisting with unit renovations, ensuring quality and efficiency.
  3. Maintain a preventative maintenance program for selected equipment.
  4. Coordinate apartment renovations and change orders with the Director of Facilities and Grounds.
  5. Participate in facility surveys and inspections by authorized agencies.
  6. Assist in developing plans of correction for deficiencies noted during inspections.
  7. Complete all other assignments/projects as directed by the Facilities Supervisor.
  8. Maintain pools to high standards, including chemical checks, water quality, safety, and detailed daily logs, supporting a clean, welcoming environment.
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Skills/Experience/Credentials:

  • Prefer 3-5 years’ experience in maintenance or general building maintenance; experience with chillers, boilers, and HVAC is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems, with troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to assess, analyze, and provide input on facility maintenance.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Valid Certified Pool Operator Certification or ability to obtain within six months.
  • Commitment to exceptional customer service, listening carefully and responding promptly.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for 6-7 hours of an 8-hour shift.
  • Frequent climbing of stairs, stools, and ladders.
  • Frequent stooping, bending, and kneeling.
  • Ability to lift 25-75 pounds while walking or bending.
  • Ability to push, pull, or move carts and equipment exerting 50-75 pounds of force.
  • Repetitive use of wrists, fingers, and hands for grasping and tool use.

Other regulated requirements:

  • Pre-employment background check, including MVR.
  • Willingness to receive flu shot, TB testing, and undergo drug and biometric screenings.
