Maintenance Lead – Corrugated Packaging Industry
Full-time | 1st Shift | Chicago, IL

Who We’re Looking For
Hood Container Corporation is seeking a hands-on, experienced Industrial Maintenance Lead to oversee and coordinate the daily operations of our Maintenance Department in Chicago, IL. This role is ideal for a strong technician who brings leadership skills, deep technical knowledge, and a commitment to safety and reliability in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the maintenance team to ensure plant equipment is properly maintained and operating safely.
  • Oversee and participate in preventative and corrective maintenance across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts on critical production equipment, working with AC/DC drives, PLC-controlled systems, servo motors, encoders, and more.
  • Assign tasks, prioritize repairs, and coordinate scheduled maintenance to minimize production downtime.
  • Conduct or oversee root cause analyses for equipment failures and develop sustainable corrective actions.
  • Maintain and enforce safety protocols, including OSHA regulations and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Support the development and implementation of continuous improvement projects related to machine reliability and maintenance efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities in the plant’s maintenance system.
  • Collaborate closely with production leadership, engineering, and external contractors or vendors when needed.
  • Assist in training and upskilling maintenance personnel.

What You Bring

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or vocational training .
  • 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience, with at least 1–2 years in a leadership or lead technician role.
  • Experience in corrugated or packaging manufacturing strongly .

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced troubleshooting and repair skills in electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical schematics and manuals.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, motor controls, servo systems, and industrial automation.
  • Competency in welding, fabrication, basic carpentry, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Computer proficiency for maintenance tracking and documentation.

Physical & Work Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. regularly and work in physically demanding conditions.
  • Comfortable working in a range of environments, including at heights and in hot or cold conditions.
  • Availability to work overtime, weekends, or off-hours as needed for emergencies or planned shutdowns.

Starting Pay Range: $42.00–$46.00 per hour (based on experience)
