Job summary

Americold is seeking a skilled Maintenance Supervisor/Lead for our New Jersey site. You will oversee maintenance associates, lead troubleshooting and repairs of refrigeration and material handling equipment, and coordinate contractors to meet safety and performance standards.

You will maintain preventive maintenance records, drive continuous improvement, and support technician development across shifts, while ensuring compliance with OSHA PSM and CMMS usage.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance experience, or minimum 2 years with supervisory/lead experience.
• Skilled in industrial refrigeration, material handling equipment, dock doors/levelers, plumbing, electrical, and building maintenance.
• Complete assigned industrial refrigeration and maintenance courses and obtain HAZMAT certification.
• Experience with OSHA PSM programs and proficiency in CMMS and MS Office Suite.

What You'll Do

You will oversee and guide maintenance associates to ensure department objectives are met while performing maintenance technician duties. You will lead troubleshooting, repair, and adjustment of refrigeration and material handling equipment, monitor system performance, and recommend corrective actions. You will coordinate contractor activities, maintain preventive maintenance records, and support continuous improvement efforts across the site.

Essential Functions

• Provide oversight and guidance to maintenance associates to ensure execution of department objectives and assignments.
• Perform operation, repair, and adjustment of refrigeration systems and material handling equipment.
• Monitor equipment and system performance, recommend corrective actions, and analyze reliability and availability.
• Troubleshoot building, refrigeration, and equipment systems to drive root cause analysis and implement solutions.
• Direct and oversee contractor work and inspect completed tasks for compliance with specifications and safety standards.
• Maintain accurate preventive maintenance records and lead continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
• Support capability development of facility technicians and ensure effective communication across all maintenance shifts.
• Other essential duties may be applicable and assigned as necessary.

What Experience and Education You Need

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance experience, or minimum 2 years of industrial maintenance experience plus supervisory or lead experience.
• Skilled in industrial refrigeration, material handling equipment, dock door and leveler, plumbing, electrical, and building maintenance.
• Required to complete assigned industrial refrigeration and maintenance courses and obtain HAZMAT certification.
• Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) programs in an industrial setting, and proficiency in using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical Requirements

• Able to tolerate working environment with inside controlled temperatures of minus 45 (-45) degrees Fahrenheit (-43 degrees Celsius) and outside ambient temperatures (including heat, cold, and precipitation).
• Able to work at heights in excess of 30 ft. (9 meters) and access elevated platforms, catwalks, and roofs.
• Able to work in confined areas.
• Able to climb ladders and stairs.
• Able frequently to stand, walk, push, pull, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch.
• Able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (23 kg) frequently.
• Able to operate hand and power tools safely.
• Able to meet specific vision abilities required by this job including close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception. (Use of contacts is prohibited when working with ammonia.)
• Depending on specific role, able to pass a physical and respiratory/respirator fit exam.
• Able to frequently step up/on or step down/off to mount and dismount material handling equipment.
• Able to perform fine articulation movements with fingers/hands and/or feet to operate equipment.
• Able to wear personal protective equipment required for any/all tasks.

The Company’s good-faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting for this position is $26.00 to $38.75 hourly.
