Job summary

CVR Energy's Wynnewood refinery seeks a Maintenance Instrumentation Journeyman to maintain, troubleshoot, and install instrument and automation systems. You may supervise others and work with various projects, applying safety, quality, and reliability principles.

Three+ years of industrial instrument experience are required, with refinery experience preferred. Proficiency in Excel/Word, P&ID concepts, and control systems is expected, along with the ability to adjust schedules as needed.

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ industrial instrument experience required
• 5+ years’ refinery experience preferred
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word
• Knowledge of electrical one-lines, three-lines, schematics and prints
• Experience with PPE for voltages up to 600V
• Basic understanding of electrical and electronic instrumentation operating principles
• Experience with pressure, level, flow and temperature instruments and control valves/ actuators/ positioners
• Experience with digital, analog, and pneumatic controls and calibration
• Familiarity with P&ID’s, loop drawings, and cascade loops
• Direct experience with SCADA/PLC/Pneumatic control loops troubleshooting
• Familiarity with analyzers (Gas Chromatographs, CEMS, etc)
• Familiarity with Honeywell distributed control systems
• Familiarity with vibration monitoring and anti-surge controls
• Familiarity with Allen-Bradley PLCs/HMIs and SCADA systems
• Familiarity with Ethernet IP, ModBus, RS-485 protocols
• Must be able to take directions and use a computer for data entry
• Fluent in English, both oral and written
• Ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs

Responsibilities

• Perform duties in compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental regulations and best practices
• Manage multiple projects or issues from varied sources
• Provide electrical and instrumentation support to maintain equipment safely and efficiently
• Participate in project planning, including P&ID development and cause‑and‑effect analysis
• Install, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical, pneumatic and process controls and new equipment
• Use hand and power tools to complete tasks
• Prepare and inspect the worksite at project start and clean up at end
• Study blueprints or manuals to determine correct installation or operation
• Communicate progress, concerns, and questions to management
• Participate in preventive maintenance for continuous improvement
• Keep detailed maintenance reports and documentation
• Record repairs and maintenance performed
• Exposure to volatile materials and chemicals

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Instrumentation Journeyman is responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of existing instrument and automation systems as well as installation, testing and commissioning of new installations and associated equipment. The Maintenance Journeyman may be responsible for supervising and training other craftsmen and working on various jobs without direct supervision. The Maintenance Journeyman embraces positive change and is committed to advancing their understanding of the Wynnewood refinery systems by a strong work ethic, self-motivation, and training. The Maintenance Journeyman promotes safety and quality and will support efforts to increase the reliability of this facility.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Associate of Applied Science degree in Instrumentation or related field preferred
• Oklahoma State Journeyman Electrical License preferred
• Journeyman Instrument Technician or an official apprenticeship qualification/certification from a nationally recognized apprenticeship training program preferred
• NCCER Instrumentation Certification preferred

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• 3+ years’ industrial instrument experience required
• 5+ years’ experience in a refinery environment preferred
• A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word preferred
• Working knowledge of electrical one-lines, electrical three-lines, electrical schematics, and electrical prints preferred
• Experience safely working with the hazards and using the associated proper PPE on voltages up to 600 volts preferred
• Demonstrated basic understanding of electrical and electronic instrumentation operating principles required
• Experience with pressure, level, flow, temperature sensing instruments and experience with final element equipment such as control valves, actuators, and positioners required
• Experience with digital, analog, and pneumatic controls and calibration techniques required
• Working knowledge of P&ID’s, loop drawings, and cascade loops is required
• Direct experience with SCADA/PLC/Pneumatic controlled loops with the ability to troubleshoot an array of problems associated with the equipment preferred
• Working knowledge of Analyzers: Gas Chromatographs, Combustion Analyzers, Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS), and Opacity preferred
• Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems: Honeywell preferred
• Familiarity with Equipment Monitoring: Vibration monitors, Anti-surge controls preferred
• Familiarity with Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers / HMI’s, Redlion HMI’s, SCADA systems preferred
• Familiarity with Ethernet IP, ModBus, RS-485 communications protocols preferred
• Must be able to provide and receive directions from others
• Ability to use a computer for data entry, work order processing and other minor tasks preferred
• Fluent in English, oral and written required.

• Set up, prepare, and inspect the worksite at start of project and clean up at end of project
• Study blueprints or manufacturer's manuals to determine the correct installation or operation of equipment
• Regularly communicate with management work progress, concerns, and questions
• Participate in the PM program on all equipment for continuous improvement of all machines
• Keeping detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation
• Record repairs and maintenance performed
• Exposure to work near potentially volatile and combustible materials and chemicals.
