Job Summary

Under general supervision, inspects, tests, adjusts, troubleshoots, calibrates and repairs process instrumentation and controls when equipment is in or out of service. Works closely with station operators while making repairs and adjustments to control circuits.

Responsibilities

• Operate valves to properly cut trips and control equipment in and out of service.
• Blow out lines for primary metering, controls and trips using air or other fluid medium to keep lines open.
• Troubleshoot, test, calibrate and repair electrical control circuits (analog, digital, distributed control systems and protective trip or interlock circuits).
• Run conduit by installing clamps and supports; pull conductors and make connections; locate trouble on power and control circuits and make necessary repairs.
• Megger and test insulation resistance on electrical equipment; adjust and renew brushes on rotating equipment.
• Repair and adjust low and high pressure hydraulic and pneumatic control systems and components.
• Install new control equipment and maintain existing equipment.
• Cooperate with employees of other departments, vendors and others to troubleshoot, repair and modify control systems and components.
• Direct others in tests of equipment for performance, efficiency or calibration.
• Analyze test results and recommend optimum performance or repair of plant equipment.
• Maintain equipment associated with nuclear radioactive sources, run tests and calibrate as required.
• Troubleshoot, repair and calibrate stack gas emission monitoring equipment such as opacity monitors and continuous emission monitors.
• Maintain safe work practices using all safety‑related equipment, materials and training.
• Instruct and train employees in any classification in their work.
• Install meters, relays, recorders, switches and similar equipment on switchboards and make necessary wiring connections.
• Tape high‑voltage connections (above 6900V).
• Maintain software changes for process control systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Thorough knowledge of meters, gauges, instruments and controls, and associated pneumatic, hydraulic, or electrical connections; and knowledge of the tools used in maintenance, adjustment and repair.
• Ability to climb ladders and work at higher elevations on platforms, scaffolds, grating, etc.
• Thorough working knowledge of methods used in testing, calibrating, troubleshooting and repairing instruments, controls, analyzers and other mechanisms and equipment.
• Good knowledge of electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic circuits and circuit components.
• Ability to understand and use manufacturer’s software to maintain or alter process control systems.
• Capable of directing the work of several employees in an assignment.
• Must be a successful candidate on the Plant Operator Selection System/Power Plant Operations and Maintenance (POSS / MASS) program.
