BAY COUNTY MEDICAL CARE FACILITY

JOB DESCRIPTION

DATE: 08/21/2024     F.L.S.A. Class: Non-Exempt

JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE I

JOB SUMMARY:

With emphasis on custodial care of Bay County Medical Care Facility, will perform a variety of cleaning tasks and routine maintenance of building equipment and grounds.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Cleans non-medical areas of the facility, including mopping and sweeping floors, vacuuming carpets, emptying wastebaskets, dusting, and removing debris to designated storage areas.
  2. Periodically performs extended cleaning, including removing wax, cleaning, waxing, and buffing floors.
  3. Performs light maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, washing walls, servicing equipment, and making light repairs.
  4. Assists in furniture moving, room moves, and receiving/storage of materials entering the facility.
  5. Removes garbage receptacles, empties them, and returns to designated service areas.
  6. Performs ground maintenance tasks such as operating lawn tractors, mowers, snowplows, blowers, and pickup trucks; shovels snow and rakes leaves as assigned.
  7. Provides preventative maintenance on operating equipment, including oiling/greasing moving parts of washing machines, ironers, dryers, motors, sump pumps, and replacing filters, belts, and aligning drives and pulleys.
  8. Carries out inspections, checks, and procedures required by State, Safety, and Federal regulations on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  9. Performs routine generator checks and testing.
  10. Secures the building by checking doors and windows, directing visitors, noting unauthorized visitors, and reacting to emergencies.
  11. Performs plumbing and heating tasks, monitors the Building Automation System (BAS), checks the heating system, and clears plugged drains.
  12. Uses buffers, floor scrubbers, mops, vacuums, receptacles, and other maintenance tools regularly.
  13. May be assigned to paint indoor and outdoor surfaces periodically.
  14. Picks up supplies for the facility as needed.
  15. Assists with wheelchair and bed troubleshooting, repairs, movement, and installation of care and safety equipment.
  16. Utilizes safety practices to ensure residents' well-being and safety of visitors and staff.
  17. Ensures privacy and dignity of residents, maintaining a safe and secure environment.
  18. Completes annual in-service training, maintains acceptable attendance, and adheres to dress code policies.
  19. Uses facility supplies and equipment responsibly to prevent loss, waste, and fraud.
  20. Maintains confidentiality of all data, including employee and facility information.
  21. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Valid, unrestricted driver's license.
  3. Knowledge of and ability to operate facility equipment and OSHA standards.
  4. Requires flexibility, climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling, stairs and ladder climbing, standing and walking for long periods, working in undesirable surroundings, and lifting up to 70 pounds.
  5. Effective interpersonal communication skills with all levels of personnel and residents.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a care environment with minimal exposure to communicable diseases when using universal precautions. Regular exposure to equipment and machinery. Occasional exposure to cleaning agents, chemicals, paint, and other maintenance products. Occasional outside weather conditions.

  1. Weekend and holiday hours required. On-call availability for emergencies.
