Qualifications

  • HVAC, electrical, plumbing and general maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical, plumbing, mechanical and equipment repairs.
  • Troubleshoot HVAC, boilers, refrigeration, and related controls.
  • Operate and service computerized building control systems.
  • Assist with door hardware maintenance and carpentry tasks.
  • Perform general custodial and grounds maintenance and snow removal.
  • Ensure safety and cleanliness of district facilities.

Job Summary: This position performs a wide range of maintenance, grounds, and building support duties to help ensure district facilities and grounds are safe, clean, functional, and well maintained. Responsibilities include building repairs, HVAC and mechanical troubleshooting, grounds maintenance, snow and ice control, equipment operation, and general custodial support as needed.

Responsibilities and tasks include:
  • Perform electrical, plumbing, mechanical and equipment repairs.
  • Troubleshoot operational failures of electrical and mechanical equipment, including but not limited to heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, boilers, electrical and pneumatic controls.
  • Understand and operate computerized systems of control relating to heating and air conditioning.
  • Assist the District Carpenter with door and hardware maintenance, including the repair, adjustment, installation and replacement of doors, door hardware, locks, closers, hinges and related components.
  • Assist with general building carpentry maintenance and repairs, including hanging and installing whiteboards, replacing countertops, repairing or replacing cabinets, shelving and other woodwork and fixtures.
  • Perform minor carpentry repairs and improvements throughout district buildings, including the repair, replacement and installation of trim, doors, framing, wall surfaces and other building components.
  • Perform minor tile repairs and replacement, including floor and wall tile, grout and related surface repairs.
  • Maintain and be responsible for all yard work including, but not limited to, watering, mowing, trimming lawns, pruning shrubs and trees, weeding, and removing paper and debris from school grounds and along fence lines.
  • Prepare and care for outdoor play surfaces and minor improvements, including synthetic turf fields.
  • Maintain outdoor facilities including landscaping, snow removal and de-icing of sidewalks.
  • Perform preventive and repair maintenance of building equipment, custodial equipment and grounds equipment.
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks including, but not limited to, dust mopping and wet mopping classroom and hallway floors, cleaning restrooms, vacuuming carpet and walk-off matting, stripping and sealing resilient and hard surface floors, and washing windows, walls and lockers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
  • Computer skills, including proper use of email communication
  • Operating electrical and mechanical equipment, including but not limited to boilers, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, air conditioning and other custodial and grounds equipment.
  • Using computerized systems of control; diagnosing problems and programming systems relating to heating, ventilating and air conditioning.
  • Working under pressure with a wide variety of demands.
  • Conducting minor repairs on motors and equipment, including plugs, points, greasing and oil changes.
  • Operating tractors, trucks, and related equipment such as loaders, grass seeders, snow plows, skid steers and similar equipment.
  • Helping, serving, taking instructions and working with minimum supervision.
  • Working cooperatively with the Principal, Athletic Director and Building Operations Supervisor.
  • Providing excellent customer service and using sound problem-solving techniques.
Minimum qualifications include:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Minnesota Driver’s License
  • Minnesota Special Boiler License upon hire
  • Must obtain First Class “C” Boiler License within two years of hire date
  • Must obtain EPA Certified Pesticide Applicator License within one year of hire date
Preferred qualifications include:
  • Vocational training in heating, ventilating, air conditioning, electrical systems and/or grounds and turf management is desirable.
