Job summary

Laitram, L.L.C. seeks a Maintenance Generalist to join the Corporate Facilities Management and Engineering Team at our Harahan office.

This role maintains offices, shops, grounds, manufacturing and assigned areas in a safe, clean condition and assists with demand and corrective work orders for campus operations. Reporting to the Corporate Facilities Supervisor, the position requires 4+ years of mechanical or facilities experience and the ability to work with various tools, lifts, and a CMMS.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of relevant mechanical or facilities maintenance experience.
  • Effective problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new tools, systems, and procedures.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and support continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • May be required to use a variety of hand and power tools and operate a forklift and/or aerial lift.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively to deliver excellent customer satisfaction.
  • Must be physically able to perform maintenance tasks including climbing ladders and lifting 73 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, relocate, and reconfigure office furniture, workstations, shelving, and storage systems.
  • Install warehouse and storage racking in accordance with manufacturer specifications and safety requirements.
  • Perform minor facility repairs, including ceiling tile replacement and touch-up work.
  • Hang and mount signs, whiteboards, bulletin boards, artwork, televisions, shelving, and wall-mounted items.
  • Support office moves, relocations, and workspace reconfigurations.
  • Assist in common area refresh projects, including furniture replacement and fixture updates.
  • Perform routine facility inspections and identify repair or improvement opportunities.
  • Work from drawings, schematics, blueprints, or verbal instructions and operate a variety of tools and machines.
  • Source and order parts and services as needed.
  • Operate a company vehicle to travel to job sites and pick up project parts and materials.
  • Document completed work and update work orders within CMMS.
  • May be on-call to provide telephone assistance or emergency response.

This position will report to the Corporate Facilities Supervisor.

  • Perform routine facility inspections and identify repair or improvement opportunities.
  • Work from drawings, schematics, blueprints, job layouts or verbal instructions and operates a variety of tools and machines incidental to operations.
  • Source and order parts and services as needed.
  • Operate a company vehicle to travel to job sites and pick up project parts and materials
  • Comply with all company policies, standards and safety procedures.
  • Document completed work and update work orders within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Perform any other miscellaneous duties as requested.
  • May be required to be on call to provide telephone assistance as well as emergency response to the facility.
Requirements
  • 4+ years of relevant mechanical or facilities maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Effective problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn new tools, systems, and procedures
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and support continuous-improvement initiatives
  • May be required to use a variety of hand and power tools and operate a forklift and/or aerial lift.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively to deliver excellent customer satisfaction.
  • Must be physically able to perform maintenance tasks to the highest caliber, which includes ability to: climb ladders, lift objects, extend arms to reach overhead, etc.
  • May be required to work overtime and/or weekends to complete a project.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Must be able to perform the essential job requirements identified in the Functional Job Description for this position, including the ability to lift 73 pounds.
Desired Qualifications
  • Current certification to operate a forklift, boom lift, and/or scissor lift
  • Competence and experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • Experience with electrical work and/or plumbing work.
