Hoover City Schools is seeking a Maintenance – General to assist in maintaining district facilities and structures by providing reliable maintenance services.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, five years of related experience, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions. Responsibilities include basic repairs, operating machinery, inspections, and timely completion of work orders with safety and confidentiality in mind.

Qualifications

  • Ability to instruct others in the performance of tasks.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and/or followplans, directions, and specifications.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to make estimates of time and material needed for efficient project completion.
  • Ability to climb and work from scaffolding, ladders, and heights.
  • Strength and agility to lift and carry objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds; ability to exert up to seventy-five (75) pounds of force.
  • Ability to work in locations involving heights or confined spaces.
  • Ability and willingness to work indoors and outdoors year-round in noisy, crowded environments, in various temperatures, and weather conditions.
  • Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays if necessary.
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
  • Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities
  • Performs general and/or routine building maintenance duties as requested, which may include but is not limited to changing light bulbs and filters, basic plumbing and mechanical repairs, and basic carpentry
  • Operates machinery as requested (backhoe, tractor, bucket truck, etc.)
  • Assists co-workers within the department as requested
  • Performs inspections, diagnoses problems, and executes services as needed
  • Estimates materials and resources necessary for completion of jobs
  • Completes work order assignments in a timely manner without close supervision
  • Prioritizes tasks and uses time wisely
  • Uses problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and effective interpersonal skills to effectively and efficiently complete assignments
  • Engages in work-related training to increase knowledge and skills as directed and/or for advancement
  • Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility
  • Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel
  • Responds to inquiries, requests, and constructive feedback in a timely and positive manner
  • Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner
  • Properly uses and cares for tools, equipment, and material resources of the school system
  • Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures
  • Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal and local laws
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)
