Job summary

Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in St. Gabriel, LA is seeking a Maintenance Foreman to oversee security-related maintenance, locks, doors, and related hardware in a 24-hour correctional facility.

You will lead installation, maintenance, and repair of locking systems to safeguard staff, offenders, and visitors. The role requires several years of experience in building trades or related technical training; successful candidates will manage key control and collaborate with security staff to ensure

• Two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus two years of experience in the building trades.
• Two years of on-the-job experience in building construction trades, building maintenance, or related areas.
• Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, plus two years of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain doors, door closures, hinges, panic devices, and hardware; prep for lock installations.
• Design and maintain master keying systems for secure access across the facility.
• Coordinate with outside vendors/contractors for locksmith/security projects and ensure proper key control.
• Respond promptly to work orders, service calls, and emergency lockouts.

As the Maintenance Foreman at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center, you will play a vital role in safeguarding the integrity and daily operations of the facility. This position leads the effort to ensure all buildings remain secure, functional, and accessible by overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of locks, doors, closures, panic hardware, and related security systems. Your expertise will directly support the safety of staff, offenders, and visitors while upholding the high operational standards required in a correctional environment.

Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:

Four years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR

Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus two years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR

Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses plus two years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance.

Job Duties:

• Perform maintenance and preventative maintenance on all doors, door closures, hinges, panic devices, and hardware, including all preparations required for the installation of locks.
• Design, implement, and maintain master keying systems to ensure efficient and secure access across EHCC.
• Serve as the point of contact with outside vendors and contractors for specialized locksmith or security projects. Collaborate with maintenance and security staff to ensure proper building access cut, duplicate, rekey, and issue keys in accordance with a secure key control system. Lock and key types vary and include Folger Adams, Medeco, bi-axial, and paracentric keys.
• Respond promptly to work orders, service calls, and emergency lockouts.

Appointment Type:PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

• Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
• An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
