Job summary

The Townsend Company is seeking a Maintenance Foreperson to lead a residential landscape maintenance bed care crew, requiring strong leadership, detailed organization, and excellent customer service to maintain high-end properties. Guided by safety standards, you will supervise crew tasks, train team members, and inspect work to ensure top quality while coordinating with clients on expectations.

A solid background in horticulture and irrigation basics is essential, with at least a high school

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in residential landscape maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of horticulture, bed care, and plant identification.
• Working knowledge of commercial landscape equipment.
• Basic understanding of irrigation systems and minor repairs.
• Knowledge of proper edging, mulching, and chemical application techniques.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance on high-end residential properties, ensuring quality and client satisfaction.
• Demonstrate knowledge of horticulture and bed care practices.
• Identify and maintain ornamental trees, shrubs, perennials, and manage invasive growth.
• Execute seasonal services, including: Spring clean-ups, Fall clean-ups, Snow removal.
• Perform bed edging, mulching, weeding, raking, and pruning.
• Apply chemicals such as fertilizers and weed control products in accordance with safety standards.
• Maintain clean, organized, and visually appealing landscapes.
• Assign duties and direct work in progress.
• Train and instruct crew members on proper techniques and safety procedures.
• Balance workloads among team members.
• Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
• Approve completed work.
• Communicate effectively with clients regarding services and expectations.
• Provide a high level of customer service at all times.
• Address client concerns and ensure satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Landscape Maintenance & Horticulture

• Perform maintenance on high-end residential properties, ensuring quality and client satisfaction
• Demonstrate knowledge of horticulture and bed care practices
• Identify and maintain ornamental trees, shrubs, perennials, and manage invasive growth

Bed Care & Property Upkeep

• Perform bed edging, mulching, weeding, raking, and pruning

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in residential landscape maintenance
• Strong knowledge of horticulture, bed care, and plant identification
• Working knowledge of commercial landscape equipment
• Basic understanding of irrigation systems and minor repairs
• Knowledge of proper edging, mulching, and chemical application techniques

This role is based in an office environment with occasional remote work flexibility. The position may require limited travel.
