Job Description
The Maintenance Shift Supervisor ensures that all planned and unplanned maintenance activities for loading and drilling equipment are properly executed in a safe and efficient manner. The role works closely with other teams and supervisors within mobile maintenance and across the site on a rotating schedule.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Review and direct technicians on all scheduled and unscheduled repair activities, ensuring safe and efficient execution.
- Discuss upcoming schedules and plans with peers.
- Coordinate with operations supervisors and the dispatcher for all scheduled activities, ensuring sequencing matches the developed schedule.
- Assign and distribute work order packages including standard job plans, single point lessons, oil sample labels to the technicians.
- Spend at least 50% of time on visible felt leadership, interacting with technicians and service contractors.
- Attend meetings when on shift to communicate current machine status, priorities, unplanned sick leave, parts issues, required schedule changes, and uncompleted work orders requiring rescheduling.
- Proactively interact with Reactive and PM technicians, supporting and executing safety and reliability improvements to equipment.
- Manage work order and operating system processes.
Develop crew support for continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- 5 to 10 years of technical experience in the mining maintenance sector, emphasizing loaders, hydraulic shovels, excavators, platform drills, and boom drills.
- 2 years’ experience as a supervisor or in an equivalent supervisory position.
- Direct practical experience with mining equipment, including Komatsu PC 3000 & 4000, CAT 6020 excavators, CAT 992 K, 993 K, 988 H front end loaders, electric drive haul trucks, and various CAT ancillary equipment.
- Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician degree preferred but not required.

- Maintain maintenance shift reports, area inspections, planned general inspections, dispatch reporting data, and employee evaluations.
- Maintain good relationships with key vendors and manufacturers.
- Provide technical support and training to PM and repair technicians.
- Submit at minimum one Field Level Risk Assessment daily.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand, sit, use manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear, and see.
- Fit for duty: Able to lift and carry 50 lbs overhead, climb ladders, work at heights, etc.
- Capable of working in adverse weather conditions: wind, rain, sun.
- Work in a surface mine setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
- Personal protective equipment required when performing work in an underground environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and, as needed, respirator, rubber steel‑toe boots, protective clothing, gloves, and other protective equipment as required.
