Job summary

The Maintenance Field Manager at Ocular Therapeutix, Inc. will lead maintenance across our Bedford, MA facilities, ensuring safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in facilities or equipment maintenance, preferably within a pharmaceutical, biotech, or similarly regulated GMP environment.
• 3–5+ years of supervisory or management experience, including experience managing supervisors or leads.
• Advanced knowledge of mechanical, utilities, and plant systems.
• Experience with deviations, risk assessments, Change Controls, and CAPA activities at a program level.
• Proficiency with CMMS or asset management platforms; Blue Mountain RAM (BMRAM) strongly preferred.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills.
• Ability to lead teams through change while fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Ability to work effectively with Quality Assurance, Validation, Engineering, Manufacturing, Calibration, vendors, and equipment owners.
• Familiarity with Vaisala or equivalent continuous environmental monitoring systems is preferred.
• Experience with building automation systems (BAS), HVAC, compressed gases, and cleanroom infrastructure at a program level is preferred.
• Familiarity with OSHA and facility safety compliance requirements is preferred.
• Experience supporting equipment qualifications (IQ/OQ/PQ) or capital projects is preferred.
• Experience managing or transitioning a maintenance program between CMMS platforms is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate daily maintenance activities across facilities, ensuring work is executed safely, accurately, compliantly, and in accordance with approved procedures and schedules.
• Provide field leadership and technical guidance to Maintenance Supervisors and other assigned personnel; remove barriers, establish priorities, and ensure timely escalation of issues.
• Provide operational oversight of building systems, utilities, and reliability programs; direct root-cause and systemic improvement efforts.
• Establish and monitor a maintenance criticality matrix and priority tiering to support risk-based scheduling and business continuity decisions.
• Manage maintenance vendors and service providers, including scheduling, technical oversight, performance evaluation, and compliance with site requirements.
• Lead and coordinate technical investigation, documentation, and closure of maintenance-related deviations; partner with Quality Assurance on disposition and quality record closure.
• Initiate and support Change Controls associated with maintenance procedures, equipment replacement, and infrastructure upgrades.
• Lead or support CAPA activities arising from maintenance deviations, audit observations, or systemic findings.
• Develop, review, and approve Maintenance SOPs, work instructions, job plans, and program documentation.
• Ensure maintenance records, work orders, and CMMS data meet cGMP and good documentation practice requirements and remain inspection ready.
• Directly manage Maintenance Supervisor(s), including performance management, coaching, and development planning; provide indirect leadership and support to Maintenance Technicians across the program.
• Develop team capability through coaching, mentoring, performance feedback, training, and individual development planning; participate in hiring and onboarding activities as needed.
• Establish, monitor, analyze, and report maintenance KPIs (PM compliance, CM turnaround, schedule adherence, program health) to the Associate Director; identify trends and drive corrective or improvement actions.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Field Manager is responsible for leading the execution, compliance, and continuous improvement of maintenance activities across Ocular Therapeutix facilities. Provides technical and people leadership to the Maintenance team, ensures maintenance work is prioritized and completed safely, accurately, and on schedule, and serves as a key operational partner to Quality Assurance, Validation, Engineering, Calibration, Manufacturing, and other stakeholders.

Duties And Responsibilities

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

• Lead and coordinate daily maintenance activities across Ocular Therapeutix facilities, ensuring work is executed safely, accurately, compliantly, and in accordance with approved procedures and schedules.
• Provide field leadership and technical guidance to Maintenance Supervisors and other assigned personnel; remove barriers, establish priorities, and ensure timely escalation of issues.

Systems & Reliability

• Provide operational oversight of building systems, utilities, and reliability programs; direct root-cause and systemic improvement efforts.

Vendor & Coordination Support

• Manage maintenance vendors and service providers, including scheduling, technical oversight, performance evaluation, and compliance with site requirements.

GMP Operations Support

Environmental Requirements & Working Conditions

• Ability to work safely with mechanical, electrical, and process equipment.
• May work with chemicals, compressed gases, tools, and mechanical equipment as required by assigned activities.
• Ability to lift, push, and/or move up to 50 lbs, with or without assistance.
• Required to work in a variety of environments including cleanrooms, laboratories, mechanical spaces, plant utility areas, and general facility areas.
• Must be able to comply with gowning requirements and controlled-environment behavior as applicable.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in confined or technical spaces for extended periods.
• May be required to work at heights, use ladders, and navigate facility infrastructure.
• May be exposed to noise and temperature variations based on work location and assigned activities.
• Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to site safety procedures are required based on task and area.
• May require off-hours, weekend, emergency-response, or on-call support to meet operational needs.

Salary Range: $102,000 USD - $120,000 USD
