Job description

Job Title:

Maintenance Facilities Worker

Physical Location:

Kent Campus - Kent, OH

Salary:

$17.49 - $18.29 (6 month rate)

Basic Function:

Perform general maintenance and related duties; assist other maintenance workers or supervisor. Reports to the Building Maintenance Supervisor or other designated supervisor.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide maintenance, repair, and labor functions related to corrective and preventative maintenance of buildings and grounds.
  • Perform minor installation and repair of electrical equipment and plumbing systems; perform minor carpentry and painting tasks; repair lighting systems by replacing ballasts, light bulbs, and other components as required. May inspect and repair exit signs and emergency lights.
  • Monitor HVAC equipment and systems; read meters and gauges; record temperatures, pressure readings, etc.
  • Prepare buildings for functions and events (e.g., pull out bleachers; set up rails, tables, and equipment; check timing devices and P.A. system).
  • May perform custodial and groundskeeping duties as required.
  • Answer telephone or two-way radio; provide information, take messages, respond to service requests.
  • Operate vehicle for parts and supplies pickup and delivery.
  • Train and direct student employees or lower-grade employees; participate in training new employees.
  • Work with skilled trades to complete tasks and learn new skills; rotate between buildings or zones.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED; ability to participate in and pass a building maintenance certificate program; ability to work in high places or confined spaces; ability to use a respirator.

License/Certification:

Valid Ohio driver’s license with a safe driving record.

Knowledge Of:

Basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC; basic mathematics.

Skill In:

Effective communication; painting interior and exterior surfaces.

Ability To:

  • Use hand and power tools and operate specialized equipment
  • Apply safety practices
  • Lift up to 100 pounds
  • Read, write, and follow instructions
  • Maintain records
  • Identify similar/different items
  • Work in high places and confined spaces
  • Identify problems and act accordingly
  • Work varied hours, including emergencies

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Exposed to dirt, chemicals, heights, extreme temperatures, loud noise; moderate physical effort, including lifting up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally; work in confined spaces; travel required.

Working Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with possible schedule variations.
