Job summary

Carlisle Construction Materials is seeking a Manufacturing Maintenance and Engineering Manager at the Waukesha plant. You will oversee maintenance and engineering teams, drive reliability of equipment, and implement strategies to minimize downtime across 3 shifts for a major production facility.

The role requires strong leadership, project management, and deep knowledge of fabrication equipment, PLCs, and automation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Electrical engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of related maintenance/engineering experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Forklift certification and prior equipment maintenance exposure.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, and robotic systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office for reporting and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safety, ensure OSHA compliance and Carlisle standards.
  • Troubleshoot and repair shop machinery including shears, press brakes, turrets, and electrical/hydraulic schematics.
  • Program PLC/robotic equipment and coordinate downtime with production.
  • Manage preventive maintenance and inventories; ensure timely completion.
  • Collaborate with design engineering to test and refine manufacturing processes; prepare ROI proposals.
  • Serve as project manager for multiple concurrent initiatives; manage timelines and resources.
  • Supervise maintenance and manufacturing engineering staff; participate in HR processes.

Job Summary

The Manufacturing Maintenance and Engineering Manager oversees the maintenance and engineering teams at the Waukesha Plant to ensure optimal performance and reliability of manufacturing equipment and processes. The operation runs 3 shifts, 7 days a week for a $100 MM production of roof edge metal products for Carlisle Architectural Metals. The role involves developing and implementing maintenance strategies, managing repair and upgrade projects, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and collaborating with production teams to minimize downtime and improve operational efficiency. Leadership, technical expertise, and project management skills are essential to drive productivity and support the company’s manufacturing goals.

Responsibilities
  • Safety and Compliance
    • Ensure safety is a top priority and all personnel adhere to policies and procedures
    • Continuously analyze processes for safety improvement opportunities
    • Ensure compliance with OSHA guidelines and Carlisle Safety Standards
    • Maintain a safe and clean working environment
  • Troubleshooting and Downtime Minimization
    • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair shop machinery and equipment, including Shears, Press Brakes, Turrets, electrical and hydraulic schematics
    • Troubleshoot PLC systems and robotic equipment using programming logic
    • Communicate with relevant departments regarding equipment downtime
    • Ensure maintenance support is available during all manufacturing hours, including night and weekend shifts
  • Facility Maintenance and Troubleshooting
    • Perform routine facilities maintenance, construction, and repair tasks
    • Evaluate external service contracts for building and grounds maintenance and recommend to management
  • Preventive Maintenance
    • Manage equipment, parts, and supplies inventories and place orders as needed
    • Ensure scheduled and assigned preventive maintenance tasks are completed on time
    • Maintain accurate records through maintenance software
  • Product and Process Optimization
    • Work with design engineering to develop, test, and refine new manufacturing processes
    • Evaluate current processes for efficiency and cost reductions
    • Analyze equipment downtime, capacity, and safety data to recommend improvements or replacement
    • Prepare proposals for new projects including ROI calculations and safety improvements
    • Serve as project manager for multiple projects, creating timelines, cost projections, and coordinating resources
  • Leadership & Management
    • Supervise all maintenance and manufacturing engineering personnel, including training, development, engagement, and retention
    • Participate in recruitment and interview processes with Human Resources
    • Develop and maintain training documentation and schedules for all positions
    • Evaluate employee performance, address conduct and performance issues, and implement disciplinary actions as needed
    • Manage timecards and paid‑time‑off requests to ensure accuracy
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Participate in and support company COS initiatives with a lean mindset
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance maintenance practices, engineering processes, and overall operational efficiency
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Assess, problem‑solve, and troubleshoot mechanical issues
  • Demonstrate effective judgment and independent thinking in troubleshooting complex issues
  • Apply continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen
  • Communicate effectively and positively influence across all functional areas (Engineering, Purchasing, Scheduling, Shipping/Receiving, Safety)
  • Handle frequent interruptions, meet tight deadlines, and resolve conflicts efficiently
  • Excellent time‑management, mathematical, and analytical skills
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical/Automation Engineering
  • 10+ years of related experience and training
  • Forklift certification and prior experience
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs and related equipment
  • Experience performing repairs and maintenance on robotic equipment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
Working Conditions

Duties involve frequent movement between the plant office, loading docks, and manufacturing floor, moderate factory noise, welding illumination, and occasional outdoor work during loading. PPE such as steel‑toed shoes and safety glasses is required. Less than 10% of the time involves travel. The role may require flexibility to work on alternate days or shifts for extended periods.

Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull weights ranging from 1 to 51 lbs, bend or stoop, reach above shoulder level, drive automatic equipment vehicles, operate machinery or power tools, climb ladders or stairs, walk, stand, sit, and work in extreme temperatures. Repetitive motion of wrists, hands, and fingers may occur. Vision, hearing, dexterity, and hand‑eye coordination are required.
