This is a full-time Maintenance Engineer II position responsible for general maintenance and repairs across hospital buildings. The role requires knowledge of building systems and trades, including plumbing, HVAC, medical gases, electrical, fire alarm systems, nurse call, and TV systems. Tasks involve using the work order system for creating and closing work orders.
Work hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm, with occasional flexibility for projects and emergencies, including rotating on-call duties.
Job Summary
The Maintenance Engineer II ensures the safety, functionality, and compliance of healthcare facility systems by performing advanced maintenance tasks, repairs, and installations. The role involves troubleshooting and maintaining mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and hospital-specific equipment, responding to urgent issues, and supervising entry-level engineers to support operational efficiency.
Essential Functions
- Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, and hospital-specific equipment.
- Responds promptly to work requests and trouble calls, maintaining professionalism and safety standards.
- Ensures all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and hospital standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, Joint Commission).
- Addresses urgent repair needs to minimize disruptions to hospital operations.
- Performs regular inspections and maintains hospital buildings and infrastructure.
- Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, and equipment performance.
- Assists with budget management and tracks necessary supplies and parts.
- Maintains detailed logs for management oversight.
- Addresses critical maintenance issues swiftly to support hospital operations and patient care.
- Performs additional duties as assigned and complies with policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree or formal training in facility maintenance, mechanical systems, or related field preferred.
- 2-4 years of experience in facilities maintenance, engineering, or related roles required.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gases).
- Proficient in troubleshooting and repair techniques.
- Ability to read technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with staff, vendors, and contractors.
- Ability to operate high-pressure boilers, emergency generators, and fire alarm panels in emergencies.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid Driver License (in-state).
- Licensed Steam Boiler and Refrigeration within six months of employment.
- Licensed Maintenance Electrician, HVAC Technician, or Plumber as required.
- CPI - Nonviolent Crisis Prevention & Intervention Training preferred.
State Specific Requirements
- Georgia: CPI certification required.
