Qualifications

  • Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, lifting up to 100 pounds.
  • Demonstrated communication and teamwork skills for school environments.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs and maintains tractors, mowers, landscaping beds, trees, and shrubbery.
  • Mows grass, trims edges, and fertilizes as part of grounds care.
  • Operates tractors for snow removal and winter maintenance.
  • Performs carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, roofing, and electrical tasks as qualified.
  • Attends weekly building checks and substitutes building custodian as needed.

Maintenance Engineer - Grounds Technician
Job Description

USD 368 is seeking applications for a maintenance engineer with a knowldge and focus in the maintenance of grounds and landscaping.

Job Function: Repairs, maintains, and services all school equipment and facilities with an emphasis on maintenance and management of district grounds.

Essential Functions:

  • Repairs, replaces and maintains:
  • Tractors and mowers
  • Landscaping beds, trees and shrubbery
  • Other areas and equipment as qualified and directed by supervisor.
  • Maintains all grass including mowing, trimming, and fertilizing.
  • Uses tractors to remove snow.
  • Provides other maintenance services to repair and construct identified items as qualified (carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, roofing, electrical).
  • Performs weekend building checks as required.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs periodic inspections as directed by supervisor.
  • Maintains athletic field and other play areas.
  • Hauls supplies and equipment.
  • Performs related functions as required by the supervisor.
  • Substitute building custodian.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Individuals must possess the following knowledge: skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combinations of skills and abilities.

  • Sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate all maintenance equipment including, but not limited to: lawn mowers, tractors, snow blowers, hand and power tools, hand trucks, testing equipment, and vehicles.
  • Ability to process, categorize, and file information and forms in accordance with district procedures.
  • Ability to grasp, lift, and/or carry or otherwise move goods weighing a maximum of 100 pounds.
  • Ability to convey a positive and professional image to visitors, employees, and students.
  • Demonstrated communication skills with the ability to work effectively with others.

Qualifications:

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or any other combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Requires significant amount of time standing, walking, lifting, stooping and carrying.

Immediate Supervisor: Director of Buildings and Grounds

Terms of Employment: 12 months
