Job summary

Grefort Electrical Inc. seeks an experienced Maintenance Engineer to oversee machinery installation, MEP coordination, and facility renovation for a new Wilson, NC plant. Initially on-site, you will manage contractors, uphold safety, and ensure regulatory compliance for power-up.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree required (associate or higher).
  • 5+ years of management experience in transformer/electromechanical equipment or heavy industrial manufacturing.
  • Hands-on maintenance engineer experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and forklift certification.
  • Strong knowledge of US building codes, NEC, OSHA, and UL standards.
  • Experience working with NC inspectors, fire marshals, and building departments.
  • Established relationships with rigging, electrical, and general contracting vendors in RTP/NC.
  • Excellent CAD/MEP reading and cross-functional communication.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the local compliance process: OSHA/UL audits, liaise with inspectors and fire marshals for COO and final power-up.
  • Coordinate and supervise suppliers to ensure safe equipment rigging, installation, and commissioning.
  • Source and manage third-party contractors for installation, load testing, and safety certification of overhead workstations and jib cranes.
  • Collaborate with an outsourced PE to finalize plant electrical drawings.
  • Review mechanical, process water, and compressed air/gas schematics for feasibility and alignment with specs.
  • Source local MEP contractors, review bids, and provide daily on-site supervision with safety focus.
  • Own on-site execution and audit of milestone deliverables per the facility SOW.
  • Ensure safety and environmental protection, OSHA compliance, and hazardous material review.
  • Create and manage TPM documentation from scratch for the plant.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain industrial equipment and MEP infrastructure ongoing.
  • Resolve critical equipment failures to minimize downtime.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Engineer to oversee and support the machinery installation, MEP coordination, and facility renovation for our new manufacturing plant in Wilson, NC. The ideal candidate will initially serve as our on-site technical expert, managing specialized contractors, ensuring strict adherence to timelines and safety standards, and driving local regulatory compliance to achieve final equipment power-up. Post-launch, this role will transition into leading the daily equipment management, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives for the facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the local compliance process, ensuring all machinery passes OSHA and UL audit requirements. Serve as the primary liaison with local county/city inspectors and fire marshals to secure final power-up approval and the facility's Certificate of Occupancy (COO).
  • Coordinate and supervise suppliers to ensure safe process for equipment rigging, unboxing, installation and commissioning.
  • Source and manage specialized third-party contractors for the installation, load testing, and final safety certification of overhead workstations (KBK rails) and jib cranes.
  • Collaborate with and support an outsourced Professional Engineer (PE) to finalize the plant's macro/micro electrical drawings.
  • Conduct technical reviews of mechanical, process water, and compressed air/gas schematics to verify operational feasibility and alignment with machine specifications.
  • Source qualified local MEP contractors, review competitive bids, and provide daily on-site construction supervision with an uncompromised focus on OSHA safety protocols.
  • Act as the primary on-site resource to execute, facilitate, and audit the milestone deliverables outlined in the general facility renovation Statement of Work (SOW).
  • Responsible for safety and environmental protection, OSHA compliance, and hazardous material review.
  • Prepare, set up, and manage plant Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) documentation from scratch.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain industrial equipment and associated MEP infrastructure on an ongoing basis.
  • Resolve critical equipment failures in production machinery promptly to minimize downtime.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Associate or above engineering degree.
  • More than 5 years of management experience in the transformer or electromechanical equipment industry , or heavy industrial manufacturing industry.
  • Hands‑on experience and proven expertise as a maintenance engineer.
  • Valid driver’s license and forklift operator certification required.
  • Strong existing knowledge of US building codes, National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA safety regulations, and UL standards.
  • Proven track record of working successfully with North Carolina local county/city inspectors, fire marshals, and building departments.
  • Established relationships with rigging, electrical, and general contracting vendors within the Research Triangle Park (RTP) or wider North Carolina area is highly preferred.
  • Exceptional blueprint‑reading capabilities (CAD/MEP drawings), strict safety enforcement mindset, and excellent cross‑functional communication skills to bridge engineering and local sub‑contractors.
