Job summary

The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort on Saint Simons Island seeks a Maintenance Engineer to support hotel operations by performing semi-skilled maintenance and repairs across HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems. The role requires practical trade experience and the ability to work with diverse hotel departments to keep guest areas safe and comfortable.

Candidates should have at least 3 years in technical trades and be able to work long hours, stand, and lift heavy objects.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • At least 3 years’ practical experience in HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing, Electrical, etc.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in basic English.
  • Long hours are sometimes required.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and move about the property.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on hotel equipment including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, boiler, pool, and other systems.
  • Collaborate with Housekeeping, F&B, Front Office and other departments to resolve operational issues.
  • Diagnose faults and safely use tools to repair equipment; document work orders.
  • Safely lift and move parts and equipment as needed and maintain safety standards.

Job description

Position Summary: The Maintenance Engineer is expected to perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair duties for the property, including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, and plumbing skills.

Qualification Standards
Education & Experience:
  • Previous customer service & hotel maintenance experience preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • At least 3 years’ practical experience in one or more of the technical trades (HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing, Electrical, etc.)
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in basic English.
  • Long hours are sometimes required.
  • Must be able to climb and descend stairs.
  • Must be able to move quickly and agilely if a situation requiring quick assistance rises.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and walk long distances, bend, stretch, twist or reach with your body and arms.

  • Heavy work - Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Other abilities, skills, knowledge:
  • Preference: Refrigeration, electrical and plumbing skills, boiler operation and maintenance skills, water treatment and chiller operation knowledge a plus.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Preference: Working knowledge of all legal issues in compliance with CFC/EPA/ADA/IAQ/OSHA.
Duties & Functions
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service-oriented manner.
  • Ability to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately, handle problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
  • Work closely with various departments such as Housekeeping, F&B, and Front Office etc. to solve day to day operational issues.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and necessary repairs and all hotel equipment, including kitchen, laundry, boiler, plumbing, pool, HVAC, electrical, public space, guest rooms and PM programs.
  • Ability to manage the lights and grounds program.
  • Make repairs to air conditioner(s) – change filters, clean coils, replace blower motors, etc.
  • Maintain pool and spa – clean, vacuum.
  • Take chiller and water heater readings and water samples.
  • Replace TV’s and cable boxes and ability to program movie channel boxes.
  • Replace light switches, receptacles, and light bulbs.
  • Perform various plumbing repairs – open clogged drains, change FET washers, stems seats, cartridges, handles, drain fittings, etc.
  • Trace and repair drain and water lines.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and as a team.
  • Make informed decisions regarding the department and the physical plant.
  • Other duties as required.

This hotel functions 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Schedules are made based on business levels and are subject to change.
