Job summary

CMC seeks a Metallurgy/Engineering professional in Knoxville, TN to monitor shop performance, analyze deviations, and report mill KPIs daily. You will collaborate with QA, Training, and Operations to drive continuous improvement and maintain quality across steel manufacturing processes.

Qualified candidates demonstrate strong communication, initiative, and hands-on problem solving in a dynamic industrial setting.

Qualifications

• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Highly technical and detail oriented.
• Hands-on shop experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor shop performance and processes daily within parameters.
• Determine causes for deviation and recommend corrections.
• Report mill performance daily/weekly/monthly against KPIs.
• Investigate and recommend process, procedure, or training needs.
• Collaborate with shift managers to optimize personnel and execution.
• Work with QA to monitor quality and address deviations.
• Support training to develop operator skills.
• Engage with external resources for process improvements.
• Coordinate with suppliers/contractors for improvements.

What You'll Do

• Monitor shop performance and processes daily for operation within established parameters


• Determine causes for deviation and recommend corrections


• Provide reporting daily, weekly and monthly to document Mill performance against established key performance indicators


• Investigate and recommend process, procedure, training or equipment needs to continually improve performance


• Work with department and shift managers to optimize personnel and process execution for consistent performance and continuous process improvement


• Work with Quality Assurance Department to monitor product quality and identify and correct any deviations


• Work with Training Department to develop and assist teaching operator development classes


• Interact with company personnel resources external to plant about process performance and improvement


• Initiate communication with resources external to company (suppliers and contractors) for consistency and improvement initiatives

What You'll Need

• Basic knowledge of the rolling process preferred


• Strong communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal


• Highly technical, detail oriented, organized and self-starter


• Willingness and ability to work hands-on in the shop with operators on flexible schedules

Your Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline required.
