Job summary

Flex-N-Gate is an automotive components manufacturer in Indiana seeking a 3rd shift maintenance technician to respond to breakdowns, troubleshoot, repair, and install plant equipment. Reading schematics, and working with PLCs are essential.

You will use Allen Bradley PLC software, Windows, and Microsoft Office to document issues and coordinate repairs. The role requires physical stamina, ability to lift 30–100 lbs, climb ladders, and work in varying temperatures.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years formal training plus 2 years practical experience, or 4 years practical experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong documentation skills.
• Preferably knowledge of the automotive industry.
• Able to climb ladders up to 20 feet and lift 30-100 lbs occasionally.
• Able to work in varying temperatures and awkward positions.

Overview & Key Areas Of Responsibility

• Respond to breakdown calls as needed.
• Troubleshoot and repair plant equipment.
• Install plant equipment and make modifications to programs and equipment as required.

Skills Required

• Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, robots, hydraulic and mechanical presses.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, troubleshoot, diagnose equipment failures, and repair all plant equipment using both hardware and software.
• Skilled in using personal computers/laptops and related software (primarily Allen Bradley PLC software, Windows OS, Microsoft Excel and Word).
• Ability to plan new or modified installations to minimize waste, provide access for maintenance, and ensure safe, reliable wiring per specifications and codes.
• Ability to measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit; pull wire through conduit.
• Install control and distribution devices (switches, relays, distribution panels).
• Install or repair lighting and maintain facility upkeep.
• Use testing equipment (Ohm/voltmeter, ammeter, oscilloscope).
• Observe equipment to detect hazards and adjustment needs.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret procedures; communicate effectively with managers, supervisors, and coworkers.
• Self-motivated, proactive, able to work in a team, perform under pressure, multi-task, prioritize, and work flexibly.
• Must furnish own tool box.
• Other duties as assigned.

Basic Education And Experience

• 2 years formal training plus 2 years practical experience, or 4 years practical experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong documentation skills.
• Preferably knowledge of the automotive industry.
• Proven attention to detail, punctuality with deadlines, and ability to perform high-quality work in short time frames.
• Must be able to climb ladders up to 20 feet and on top of equipment, in a safe manner, when needed.
• Lifting requirements range from 30-100 lbs. occasionally.
• Must be able to work in awkward positions including lying on back and working overhead, pulling wire overhead.
• Must be able to safely operate cranes, hoists, forklift, and man-lift.
• Must be able to work in variable temperatures inside and outside, from subzero to 130°F.

Health, Safety, And Physical Demand Requirements

• The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
• Ability to work in both a non-climate controlled manufacturing and office environment.
• Upper body mobility is required along with the physical requirements of lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling.
• Must be able to stand 90% of the time with frequent walking.
• Lift using one or two hands up to 50 lbs.
• Occasional use of forceful abilities from 1 to 30 pounds during the duration of the shift.
• Basic electrical safety training for safety awareness only.
