Job summary

Optum is seeking a skilled Electrician to join our 7×24 data center operations team in Minnesota. You will monitor electrical and mechanical systems, operate BMS/SCADA, and take corrective actions to maintain N+1 reliability while performing regular maintenance documented in the CMMS.

Preferred candidates have a journeyman license or are within 6 months of achieving it. The role offers competitive hourly pay and benefits as part of a comprehensive package.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Licensed Journeyman or current apprentice Electrician within 6 months of journeyman license in Minnesota.
• Ability to lift 40 pounds and work in elevated positions.
• Willingness to work Fri–Sun, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM.

Responsibilities

• Be part of a 7×24 team monitoring critical electrical, mechanical and fire/life safety systems in data centers.
• Monitor BMS and SCADA systems; perform corrective actions to maintain N+1 reliability.
• Perform recurring maintenance on electrical/mechanical assets and document results in CMMS.
• Leverage AI tools to streamline workflows and drive continuous improvement.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Be part of a 7×24 team that operates and monitors critical electrical, mechanical and fire/life safety systems within Optum Technology’s enterprise data centers
• Monitor various BMS-building management systems and operate the SCADA-supervisory, control and data acquisition system
• Detect, assess and take corrective action to overcome issues detrimental to maintaining site operations in an N + 1 condition
• Perform recurring maintenance on data center mechanical and electrical assets, posting results in a CMMS-computer maintenance management system

Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools to enhance productivity and innovation by streamlining workflows and automating repetitive tasks. Evaluate emerging trends to drive continuous improvement and strategic innovation.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Licensed Journeyman OR current apprentice Electrician within 6 months of achieving journeyman license with the State of Minnesota
• Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds, sit and stand for long periods of time, climb ladders, walk on cat – walks and be comfortable working in elevated positions on lifts and platforms
• Ability to work Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master Electrician (Already having the license)
• Experience with Electrical Assets, including but not limited to UPS (uninterruptible power supplies), ATS (automatic transfer switches), VFD (variable frequency drives), PDU (power distribution units), and Generators
• Experience operating key mechanical assets, including but not limited to chillers, cooling towers, water treatment systems, CRACs – computer room air conditioners, pumps, sumps and leak detection systems
• Experience using key fire / life safety systems, including but not limited to VESDA – very early smoke detection apparatus and pre – action sprinkler systems
• Experience operating and manipulating VFDs and PLCs
• Experience installing WHIPS (power connections to various devices)
• Experience building and assembling computer room racks, cabinets, HDAs and cutting and installation of floor tiles

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $35 to $63 hourly based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
