Job summary

Job description

THE VACANCY

This recruitment is open and promotional, meaning all are welcome to apply and current employees in permanent positions are eligible to receive seniority credit and promotional placement once passing all exams.

There is currently one vacancy in the Maintenance and Operations Department (8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 12 months per year).

BASIC FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Manager, Maintenance and Operations, perform journey-level electrical and specialized work involved in the installation, maintenance, repair, and alterations of various District electrical systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from high school supplemented by completion of an approved apprenticeship program in field of specialty and four years journey-level electrical experience.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Valid California driver's license.

THE EXAMINATION

The supplemental questions to the application will be reviewed and rated for certification. These questions are required at the time of application and are qualifying.

An eligibility list will be established for successful candidates which will be used to fill open positions during the life of the list.

Examinations and interviews held to create the eligible list will be conducted virtually and in-person, using different online/internet platforms that require video recording or conferencing capabilities, as well as access to a computer with internet connection and basic Microsoft Office Suite Software.

The virtual Written Examination is tentatively scheduled for the week of September 7th. The in-person Performance/Qualifications Appraisal Interview (oral exam) is tentatively scheduled for the week of September 21st. You will be contacted via email, as indicated on your application, regarding your ability to participate in the examination phase of this recruitment.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
  • Perform journey-level electrical and specialized work involved in the installation, maintenance, repair and alterations of various District electrical systems; inspect and troubleshoot electrical systems, motors, controls and wiring; maintain records related to work performed.
  • Install, repair and maintain electrical receptacles, switches, controls and lighting systems; replace fuses; assure power connection to fixtures and lighting controls.
  • Install wire molds for computer labs; determine necessary circuits and evaluate breaker space; add new circuits; install conduit runs as required.
  • Install and maintain power distribution, transformers, circuit breaker systems, electrical panel boards and emergency lighting systems.
  • Maintain and repair a variety of mechanical and electrical equipment and systems including ovens, hot food carts, generators, exhaust fans and emergency lights and other related equipment.
  • Install and maintain shop machinery and power tools; estimate costs and order parts, supplies and equipment for electrical projects; maintain related records.
  • Communicate with other departments and administrators regarding projects and job requests.
  • Operate a variety of electrical tools and equipment; drive a vehicle to assigned sites to conduct work; respond to emergency service calls as needed.
  • Assure compliance with District policies and building, health and safety codes applicable to the electrical trade.
  • Coordinate and direct the work of assigned helpers.
  • Assist with maintenance and special projects as assigned.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
