Job summary

Marshalltown seeks a skilled tradesperson to maintain and repair city electrical systems, HVAC, and related equipment across municipal buildings.Responsibilities include installation, preventive maintenance, and urgent repairs to ensure reliable city operations. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or five years’ experience is required, along with Iowa licenses for electrical or HVAC work.

• Commercial Driver’s License Class B with air brake endorsement or ability to obtain within timeframe.

Responsibilities

• Operate, install, maintain, and repair complex electrical wiring and related systems for city facilities.
• Maintain City-owned HVAC systems and related equipment; perform preventive maintenance and urgent repairs.
• Work across city buildings and respond to maintenance needs as required.

Under General Supervision; performs skilled work in the operation, installation, maintenance, and repair of complex electrical wiring, instrumentation, city-owned HVAC systems and related electrical systems/equipment and fixtures; performs maintenance and repair of City owned buildings and does related work as required.

Acceptable Experience and Training

• Graduation from a college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; or
• Five years’ experience in the maintenance, repair and operation of traffic signals, street lights and buildings; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Required Special Qualifications

• Possession of a Journeyman or Master Electricians License issued by the State of Iowa or Journeyman or Master HVAC technician;
• Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License issued by the State of Iowa with Class B with air brake endorsement or obtain within an agreed upon timeframe based on class availability.
