Job summary

Talan Products Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Electrician to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, machinery, and related equipment at our Cleveland area facility.

You will troubleshoot PLCs, motors, and control circuits, follow safety protocols, read schematics, and document maintenance actions. Candidate should have 4+ years of industrial experience and a Journeyman certificate; high school diploma or equivalent; and relevant training.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Maintenance Electrician in industrial/manufacturing settings.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, PLCs, motor controls, and industrial automation.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
  • Journeyman Electrician certificate or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot electrical issues, diagnose equipment problems, and investigate malfunctions.
  • Perform routine maintenance and preventive tasks on electrical systems.
  • Repair and replace motors, switches, wiring, circuit breakers, and related components.
  • Install new electrical systems and wiring according to code requirements.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and company procedures; maintain accurate records.
  • Collaborate with maintenance team to prioritize needs and ensure efficient operations.
  • Lay out and install electrical cabinets, control circuits, and related equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and electrical diagrams; use PLCs and HMIs in troubleshooting.

Job description

Description

The Maintenance Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing machinery, physical structures, pipe, conduit, equipment, and electrical systems. This position requires a deep understanding of electrical systems, industrial machinery, and safety protocols. Working under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and Manager, the Maintenance Electrician ensures the efficient operation of our production facility while adhering to rigorous maintenance standards.

Duties + Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues, diagnose problems with machinery and equipment, and investigate machine operation variations and malfunctions.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including inspecting electrical systems, replacing faulty components, and conducting preventive maintenance.
  • Repair and replace electrical components such as motors, switches, wiring, circuit breakers, transformers, and electronic components.
  • Install new electrical systems, equipment, wiring, conduit, circuit breakers, and electrical hardware according to national electric code requirements.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, comply with electrical codes and regulations, and follow all company and equipment operation safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance team members to prioritize and address maintenance needs, ensuring efficient plant operations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, documentation, and neat and concise records.
  • Participate in training programs to stay updated on new technologies and best practices in electrical maintenance.
  • Lay out, assemble, and install electrical cabinets, control circuits, and related equipment.
  • Replace gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and other related equipment.
  • Repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems as needed to maintain plant operations.
  • Efficiently use blueprints and electrical diagrams to troubleshoot and repair equipment and processes.
  • Use PC to troubleshoot and modify programs in PLCs, HMIs, robots, and servo controllers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business requirements and applicable skills and abilities.

Electrician II
  • Description: Responsible for inspecting, repairing, installing, and maintaining electrical systems, machinery, and equipment, ensuring compliance with safety codes and regulations. Utilizes a variety of tools and equipment, including power equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment. Possesses a minimum of two (2) years of journeyman-level electrical experience. Requires an Electrician Journeyman’s Certificate. Works independently within established procedures, having gained proficiency in multiple job-relevant competencies.
  • Level: Senior (III)
  • Years of Experience: 3 – 5 years
  • Education: High school diploma or its equivalent is required, along with either an Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or completion of a certificate program preferred.
  • Certifications + Licenses: Certification as an OSHA Forklift Operator; successful completion of a recognized electrical program or equivalent apprenticeship – Journeyman’s Certificate; additional certifications in specialized fields such as HVAC, or welding.
Electrician III
  • Description: Responsible for inspecting, repairing, installing, and maintaining electrical systems, machinery, and equipment, ensuring compliance with safety codes and regulations. Utilizes a variety of tools and equipment, including power equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment. Completion of an apprenticeship is required, along with a high school diploma and two-year electrical engineering degree or certificate. Requires an Electrician Journeyman’s Certificate. Operating as a specialist, demonstrates full proficiency in a wide range of job-related activities, performing complex duties independently under general supervision.
  • Level: Expert (IV)
  • Years of Experience: 5 – 7 years
  • Education: High school diploma or its equivalent is required, along with either an Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or completion of a certificate program preferred.
  • Certifications + Licenses: Certification as an OSHA Forklift Operator; successful completion of a recognized electrical program or equivalent apprenticeship – Journeyman’s Certificate; advanced certifications in specialized fields such as PLC programming, advanced electrical systems, or mechanical engineering.
Electrician IV
  • Description: Responsible for inspecting, repairing, installing, and maintaining electrical systems, machinery, and equipment, ensuring compliance with safety codes and regulations. Utilizes a variety of tools and equipment, including power equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment. Completion of an apprenticeship is required, along with a high school diploma and two-year electrical engineering degree or certificate. Requires an Electrician Journeyman’s Certificate. Operating as an Expert, demonstrates exceptional proficiency in the role, capable of handling complex problems and exceptions without direct supervision.
  • Level: Master (V)
  • Years of Experience: 7+ years
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Preferred qualifications include an Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or a certificate program and / or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field.
  • Certifications + Licenses: Certification as an OSHA Forklift Operator; successful completion of a recognized electrical program or equivalent apprenticeship – Journeyman’s Certificate; advanced certifications in specialized fields such as PLC programming, advanced electrical systems, or mechanical engineering.
Requirements
Experience + Skills
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Maintenance Electrician in an industrial or manufacturing environment, preferably in metal stamping.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including PLCs, motor controls, and industrial automation.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and repairing electrical machinery and equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading electrical schematics and blueprints.
  • Press Room experience preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with other team members and supervisors.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and procedure manuals.
  • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in shop math with the ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals and use a calculator.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to logically solve technical problems with minimal supervision.
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two-year electrical engineering degree or certificate, preferred.
  • Completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program preferred.
  • Journeyman Electrician certificate or equivalent certification required.
Physical Demands + Work Environment
  • The employee must be able to lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to forty (40) pounds and work comfortably in a noisy and potentially hazardous industrial environment. Additionally, they should be capable of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching for extended periods. During job duties, the employee may also need to sit, stoop, kneel, climb, or balance occasionally. They must frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to forty (40) pounds and may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and a risk of electrical shock. There is occasional exposure to high, precarious places, and specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment often features loud noise levels due to moving mechanical parts.
