Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking an Electrical and Instrumentation Technician to test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul and repair controlling, indicating, measuring instrumentation and electrical devices. You will read manuals and blueprints, work with PID loops and PLCs, install instruments, calibrate per OEM procedures, and support plant maintenance while following NFPA 70E safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Read and interpret work orders and safety manuals including NFPA 70E, NEC and ANSI.
  • Read blueprints, schematics and loop drawings and enter job reports to computers.
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using proper test equipment.
  • Assemble and disassemble electronic process controls, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Calibrate equipment using OEM procedures and inspect power distribution components.

  • Assist in accomplishing plant maintenance work and safety procedures.
  • Layout, fabricate, and install instrument and electrical components and cabinets.

Description

The Electrical and Instrumentation Technician will test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul and repair controlling, indicating, measuring instrumentation and electrical devices and equipment. It is the Electrical and Instrumentation Technician’s responsibility to ensure safe specified operating performance using a variety of testing and calibration equipment. Must have the ability to read and understand manuals, blueprint schematic and testing specifications. Must have good computer skills and thorough knowledge of PID’s, Loop drawings, electrical schematics and PLC’s.

Requirements
  • Read and interpret work orders, technical descriptions, and safety manuals including NFPA 70E, NEC and ANSI.
  • Read blueprints, various types of schematics and loop drawings and prepare and enter job reports to computer systems.
  • Troubleshoot and loop check PLC’s, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using proper test equipment to repair or replace faulty components, such as sensors, relays, switches, motors, modules or fixtures.
  • Assemble and disassemble all types of electronic process controls, pneumatic controls and hydraulic systems and components.
  • Layout, fabricate, and install instrument, electrical and PLC components and cabinets.
  • Calibrate equipment using OEM calibration procedures.
  • Inspect and maintain switchgear, PLC’s, transformers, buss bars, circuit breakers, and wiring connections in power distribution sub-stations.
  • Work with the principles and chemistry and physics required in instrumentation such as specific gravity, density of liquids and solids, mechanical advantages, proportions of liquids, melting points, freezing points, boiling points of liquids, etc.
  • Apply the procedures for measuring pressure level, flow, temperature, weight, density, heat flux, humidity and moisture, etc. when working with control loops
  • Assist in accomplishing plant maintenance work.
  • Maintain proper safety awareness and follow plant safety procedures in all plant activities.

Test continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components using voltmeters, ohmmeters, meggers, etc.

Perform other duties as assigned or required by supervision.

Minimum Requirements
  • 3–5 years industrial electrical and instrument maintenance and repair experience, or equivalent.
  • Maintenance / Electrical / Instrument certification, apprenticeship, or accredited technical education—or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5-10 years industrial electrical and instrument maintenance and repair experience is highly preferred.
  • Lean Manufacturing knowledge or related certification(s) preferred but not required.

Experience with SAP (or similar operating system) regarding PM activity planning and spare part ordering is a plus.
