Job summary

The Lubrizol Corporation is hiring a Maintenance Electrical & Instrumentation Technician for our on-site facility in Spartanburg, SC. The role focuses on predictive and preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and process control equipment to ensure safety and reliability in a chemical plant setting.

The ideal candidate will perform service entrance work, generator and ATS maintenance, MCC and motor repairs, and control circuit troubleshooting, while calibrating

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to read and interpret NEC/IBC and engineering standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience reading wiring diagrams and control schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Safely maintain and repair service entrance and distribution equipment.
  • Maintain 480V backup generators and ATS.
  • Maintain MCCs, motors, and motor starters; troubleshoot VFDs.
  • Design and troubleshoot control circuits and wiring.
  • Assist with installation of new electrical and process control equipment.
  • Calibrate instrumentation and work with low voltage wiring.

How You'll Make An Impact

As a Maintenance Electrical & Instrumentation Technician, you will be responsible for predictive and preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair of existing, and installation of new electrical and process control equipment throughout the facility. In this role, you will directly impact the safety and reliability of an operating chemical plant. In this role, you will:

  • Safely maintain and repair service entrance & distribution equipment.
  • Safely maintain and repair 480V backup generators and automatic transfer switches (ATS).
  • Safely maintain and repair motor control centers (MCCs) and AC induction motors.
  • Troubleshoot and repair motor starters and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Safely Maintain and repair circuit breakers, fuses, and other disconnects.
  • Provide troubleshooting and repair for electrical transformers (Wye-Wye, Delta-Wye).
  • Maintain and repair power panels & wiring for three phase 480V, 208V and single phase 220V, 120V.
  • Design and troubleshoot control circuits, disconnects, switches, etc.
  • Install conduit (rigid, flex, EMT, PVC) and wire pulling. understanding of electrical classifications for hazardous areas/industrial facilities.
  • Work with our distributed control systems (DCS) like Emerson DeltaV and programmable logic controllers (PLC) such as Allen Bradley.
  • Calibrate and maintain analog and discrete instrumentation, and knowledgeable in control wiring, terminal blocks, and low voltage fusing.
Required Qualifications That Enable Your Success
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
  • Ability to safely work independently and in a team setting by following all required procedures
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret electrical codes (National Electric Code / NEC), building codes (International Building Code / IBC) and engineering standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Strong organizational skills and self-motivation
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to give and receive constructive feedback and coaching
  • Strong mechanical skills and the ability to use a variety of hand and power tools
  • Ability to follow departmental practices, procedures and safety guidelines
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret wiring diagrams, motor elementary drawings, and loop sheets.
Preferred Qualifications That Drive You Forward
  • Associate's degree, or formal certification in electrical, control or related disciplines
  • SC Electrical Contractor's License (Limited, Intermediate, Unlimited, or Special Restricted Licenses)
  • 10+ years of industrial maintenance experience
  • Proficiency with SAP maintenance and business software
  • Experience with infrared (IR) thermography for electrical equipment
  • Experience with airborne ultrasonic inspection of electrical equipment
  • Proficiency with laser alignment of rotating equipment
