A local educational institution in Canton, Ohio, is seeking a reliable Maintenance Worker to ensure a clean and safe environment for students. Responsibilities include performing maintenance on school buildings, emergency repairs, and overseeing custodial staff. Candidates should possess a high school diploma and have a working knowledge of various mechanical systems. This is a full-time position with salary and work year to be established by the Board.
Qualifications:
*High School diploma or equivalent
*A working knowledge of roofs, windows, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, etc., is a plus, or a willingness to be trained in such.
*Experience working with adults/students in an authoritative role.
*Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate.

Reports To:
*Maintenance Foreman and Business Manager.
Supervises:
*Student custodians and part-time custodial staff.
Job Goal:
*Work with Maintenance Foreman, Business Manager, and custodians to provide a clean, safe educational environment for all students.
Evaluation:
*Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
Performance Responsibilities:
*Oversee opening, closing, and setting up of district facilities as needed; be on-call 24 hours a day for emergency repairs or duties, such as responding to fire alarms, security alarms, vandalism, etc.
*Perform repairs/maintenance and conduct preventative maintenance on the exterior and interior of school buildings/structures, including roofs, windows, HVAC, equipment, motors, electric, plumbing, freezers, blacktop, playground equipment, fences, septic systems, athletic fields, furniture, tools, etc.
*Maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to operate all school equipment and vehicles, including during inclement weather.
*Assist in ordering supplies/equipment, keep inventory, arrange delivery to warehouse and buildings, and oversee warehouse upkeep.
*Mow, trim, and clean around buildings, shrubs, and plants as needed.
*Participate in training programs as required by the District.
*Deviate from work schedule only as requested by supervisor.
*Care for and clean ditches and sewers on school property.
*Report regularly at assigned times and be flexible to handle the needs of the District.
*Plow or remove snow, ice, or debris from drives, sidewalks, and lots.
*Assist in setting up buildings for activities as required or directed.
*Occasionally work with equipment involving electricity, natural gas, and hydraulic fluids, such as electric floor scrubbers.
*Deal with occasional exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
*Interact with students in a friendly manner, including handling unruly students.
*Comply with all Plain Local Board of Education policies and procedures.
*Perform other duties as directed.
