Working under the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Controls Technician for the new Alpha Plant will lead and help coordinate all activities associated with their department. The Controls Technician supports and maintains electrical and process controls issues. This role services requests and provides support to all production and maintenance related functions along with electrical and process control troubleshooting. Continuously promotes through understanding of safety while following all established safety procedures. Some non-routine activities may require a supervisor’s advance approval, but routine decisions within the general scope of the role may be made independently.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receives work from shift supervisor or manager and carries out assigned duties timely and accurately.
  • Solve complex automation issues through various control systems such as RS Logix 5000, Studio 5000, RSNetworx, FactoryTalk Studio ME, and FactoryTalk Studio SE.
  • Programs, services, repairs, and maintains instrumentation, electrical, and process controls.
  • Maintain and update electrical schematics using AutoCAD.
  • Responds to breakdown trouble calls and returns machines to their accurate running state. This includes troubleshooting, diagnosing, and fixing problems related to electrical and mechanical equipment or process failures.
  • Participates and collaborates with operations personnel to ensure efficient production and minimize downtime.
  • Reads and understands electrical schematics/ mechanical blueprints.
  • Maintain company documentation as needed.
  • Promotes safety by understanding and aligning with safety procedures and reporting all incidents in a timely manner.
  • Follows Federal, State, City and A.I.B. Health and Safety Standards, including OSHA (State and/or Federal) and Hazardous Material regulation, in keeping with the work process and chemical inventory by location.
  • Acts as a Safety champion, ensuring that team culture embodies a “safety first, safety always” attitude with policies, procedures, and accountability to protect our ‘ohana’s safety.
  • Ensures compliance with all King’s Hawaiian policies and procedures (Safety, EEO, Sexual Harassment, Quality, etc.).
  • Role may require off-shift and/or weekend work.
  • Performs other duties as required which are reasonably within the scope of this role.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)

  • Required – AA/AS degree or higher from an accredited institution, or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Required – Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible experience in manufacturing maintenance
  • Required – Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals written in English
  • Required – Ability to write routine quality assurance reports and correspondence in English
  • Required – Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measurement using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Required – Proficiency with all MS Office Applications (Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
  • Required – Ability to read mechanical/electrical blueprints and schematics
  • Preferred – Experience in food manufacturing environment
  • Preferred – English/Spanish bilingual
  • Preferred – National Electrical code application experience
  • Preferred – Working knowledge of Autonomous Maintenance and Total Productive Maintenance

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE)

  • Proficient PLC/PAC/HMI/Networking programming knowledge utilizing Allen-Bradley RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk Studio ME/SE, RSNetworx, Ethernet/IP, and AutoCAD
  • Proficient understanding the theory and operation of Variable Frequency Drives with an emphasis on Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 40, 40P, 70, 700 Series, and 525
  • Working knowledge of networking VFD’s (ControlNet and Ethernet)
  • Proficient with electrical circuits and motors up to and including 480 volts
  • Proficient operating DMM and clamp on ammeter
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills – ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, taste, or smell. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 - 25 pounds, and occasionally more than 50 pounds with assistance from co-worker and/or mechanic devices. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May require use of equipment in machine shop, small portable equipment, and manual tools. Duties may require occasional operation of a motor vehicle or travel to another state on behalf of the company.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee will be handling items that may be hot. The noise level is usually moderate. Must be available to work overtime, nights, weekends, and Holidays.
