Job summary

Kalitta Charters II in Ypsilanti, MI is seeking a skilled Maintenance Controller to serve as the main liaison for pilots, flight engineers, and mechanics regarding aircraft maintenance. In this full-time position, you will oversee maintenance scheduling, coordinate with teams, and ensure timely repairs while maintaining safety and compliance.

The ideal candidate must hold a High School Diploma or GED, valid driver's license, and an A&P Certificate. Experience with large fixed-wing aircraft and Boeing 737 systems is preferred. Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits are provided.

Job description

Kalitta Charters II specializes in scheduled and on‑demand narrow‑body freighter operations. In 2003, aviator and NHRA World Champion Doug Kalitta founded the company to provide a safe and reliable solution to a complex logistics problem, moving freight across the Americas for our customers overnight.

Job Summary

Maintenance controllers serve as the liaison for all pilots, flight engineers, and mechanics regarding any maintenance or equipment needed for an aircraft. They provide full service to an aircraft and step into multiple roles as required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a continuous liaison with all outstation maintenance facilities, ensuring timely reporting of current total aircraft times, inspections, time changes, work requests, etc.
• Provide technical assistance to Kalitta Charters II maintenance employees and contract agencies.
• Authorize, assign, and maintain a daily log of MEL, CDL, and carry‑over controlled items; review them daily to ensure parts or technical assistance is available for timely repairs. Log all troubleshooting.
• Debrief layover flight crews or ride‑on mechanics at the end of the day.
• Coordinate with Flight Operations on aircraft movement system‑wide as it relates to maintenance scheduling, actions, and required downtime.
• Approve minor work at non‑maintenance stations.
• Coordinate with the Manager of Maintenance Control and the Director of Maintenance on all maintenance performed on Kalitta Charters II aircraft via verbal reports, electronic means (e.g., turnovers or Deferred Maintenance Item reports) or other requested means.
• Schedule required maintenance activities to comply with company requirements.
• Track approved Advisory Notices for compliance within the given period.
• Assist in preparing paperwork packages for inspections or engine changes as needed.
• Ensure timely completion of repairs.
• Obtain all supporting data for forecasted maintenance inspections.
• Conduct a quality‑control review of any deferrals issued on the previous shift for accuracy and completeness.
• Communicate with Operations and Quality Departments when aircraft maintenance status changes to ensure the Operations, Flight Fallowing, Crew Scheduling, Sales, and Quality Control Departments have the current status of each aircraft, including all MEL, CDL, and DMI assigned to each aircraft.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid unrestricted driver’s license.
• A&P Certificate.

Preferred Experience & Skills

• At least two years of experience in maintenance of large fixed‑wing aircraft.
• Boeing 737 systems training and a minimum of one year on aircraft preferred.

Physical Requirements

Location Requirements

• Operation based in Ypsilanti, MI at Willow Run Airport (YIP).
• No ability to work from home.
• No relocation package for this position.

Shift Requirements

• Must be available full‑time and work overtime when required.
