The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. This is a SPECIAL APPOINTMENT position with the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. The incumbent serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

POSITION DUTIES

Performs general maintenance repairs and services to maintain the building and grounds of the Public Safety Education and Training Center. General maintenance and repairs include HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry/construction, etc. This position may be responsible for the supervision of other maintenance personnel to include training, assignment of work and review of maintenance tasks performed by various levels of employees.

Responsibilities include:

  • Completing daily work orders for repairs and maintenance, including plumbing, carpentry, painting, construction projects, and other repair requests. Adjusting, maintaining, and repairing HVAC equipment and modern electronic control devices on building automation systems. Troubleshooting and diagnosing equipment repairs.
  • Providing daily janitorial services within assigned buildings, including cleaning, disinfecting, trash removal, restocking supplies, and performing scheduled deep cleaning tasks such as polishing floors, steam cleaning carpets, and window cleaning.
  • Performing seasonal outdoor maintenance such as grass cutting, snow removal, and plant trimming. Operating state vehicles and equipment for outdoor maintenance. Maintaining outdoor areas, including parking lots and walkways, and removing debris and snow as needed.
  • Operating manual, electric, and gas-powered tools and equipment.
  • Maintaining work areas in a safe, sanitary, and secure manner.
  • Contributing to project planning for construction or renovation projects.
  • Responding to emergencies and fulfilling on-call duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: At least five years of experience in building maintenance, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry/construction, or related fields.
Desired or Preferred Qualifications
Three years of supervisory experience overseeing maintenance staff, and one year of experience performing general maintenance repairs for a public or state facility.
