Responsibilities

  • Builds a variety of items (e.g. bearing and non-bearing structures, finished carpentry work, shelves, counter tops, cabinets, moldings) for modifying facilities.
  • Coordinates with lead/supervisor and other trades to complete projects efficiently.
  • Estimates materials and/or equipment needed to complete work projects.
  • Informs personnel regarding procedures and status of work orders for informed decisions.
  • Installs equipment, fixtures and fabrications for a safe environment.
  • Maintains vehicle, tools and equipment to stay in safe operating condition.
  • Monitors facilities and equipment to identify repairs and schedule maintenance.
  • Prepares written materials documenting activities and conveying information.
  • Remodels office/workspace to optimize space usage.
  • Repairs furniture and fixtures to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Requests/purchases equipment and supplies to maintain inventory.
  • Transports tools and supplies to job site as needed.
  • Participates in meetings/trainings to perform job functions effectively.
  • Performs other related duties to support the work unit.

The job of Carpenter Specialist is done for the purpose/s of providing carpentry services with specific responsibility for identifying repair and/or replacement needs; installing, repairing, and building items; assisting other skilled trades; and ensuring that tools and materials are available at job site.
Essential Functions

  • Builds a variety of items (e.g. bearing and non-bearing structures, finished carpentry work, shelves, counter tops, cabinets, moldings, etc.) for the purpose of modifying and/or adapting facilities to specific needs.
  • Coordinates with assigned lead and/or supervisor and other trades (e.g. plumbers, custodians, etc.) for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
  • Estimates materials and/or equipment needed to complete work projects (e.g. new doors, handicap accessibility equipment, hinges, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring timely completion of projects.
  • Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders (e.g. district and school officials, clients, students, vendors, etc.) for the purpose of providing necessary information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations.
  • Installs a variety of equipment, fixtures and fabrications (e.g. doors, handicap equipment, classroom and office systems components, dropped ceilings, partitions, door frames/hardware, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and workable environment.
  • Maintains vehicle, tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition
  • Monitors facilities and equipment for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance.
  • Prepares written materials (e.g. bids, repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
  • Remodels office and work space including partitions, paneling, etc. for the purpose of ensuring safe and efficient utilization of space.
  • Repairs a variety of furniture and fixtures (e.g. door frames, counter tops, access panels, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe working condition.
  • Requests and purchases equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.
  • Transports a variety of tools, equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
