STARTING SALARY: $19.71 - $21.68 per hour

POSITION NO: 7.170

DEPT: Public Works

The roadways right-of-way (i.e., sidewalks, stormwater systems, signs, roadway, etc.). This position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance of City streets including curbs, gutters, storm drains, and other related structures. Additionally, this position performs roadway/parking lot striping work as well as concrete and asphalt repairs. Further work activities include the operation and maintenance of a variety of hand and power tools, backhoes, skid steers, boom trucks, and utility vehicles.

Employees must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Additionally, this position is required to participate in an after-hours on-call rotation to address maintenance related activities during off work hours.

In the event of an emergency or natural/manmade disaster, this position will be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by Emergency Management or City Administration. Such assignments may be before, during, and after an emergency or disaster.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to operate light- and heavy-duty equipment; make minor equipment adjustments or repairs.
  • Working knowledge of concrete and asphalt construction and repairs.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring physical strength and endurance.
  • Ability to lift, carry, pull, push, and maneuver bulky and heavy materials; lifting of objects up to 75 pounds and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds overhead.
  • Working knowledge of occupational hazards and proper safety precautions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.

Training, Certification, and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to lift, carry, pull, push, and maneuver bulky and heavy materials up to 75 pounds and routinely lift up to 50 pounds overhead.

Special Requirements

  • Valid Florida Class “B” driver’s license or must obtain license within six months of employment.
