Qualifications

• Basic understanding of building maintenance (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, drywall, painting, groundskeeping).
• Experience with tools for landscaping and general maintenance.
• High school diploma or H.S.E. equivalent.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Word.

Responsibilities

• Maintain dependability: punctual, follow instructions, seek feedback, complete tasks accurately and promptly.
• Ensure quality and safety: detail‑oriented, work independently, document maintenance activities safely, operate gas‑powered equipment (lawn mower, small tractor, snow removal equipment, power sprayers, snow blowers, weed cutters).

Position Summary

The Maintenance Associate is responsible for maintaining building structures, fixtures, and mechanical and electrical systems across Wheeler Mission’s shelter and resident facilities. The role involves rotating between multiple Indianapolis locations and responding promptly to maintenance requests.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain dependability: consistently punctual, follows instructions, seeks feedback, completes tasks accurately and promptly.
• Ensure quality and safety: demonstrate patience and precision, pay careful attention to detail, work independently to high‑quality results, document maintenance activities safely, operate gas‑powered equipment (lawn mower, small tractor, snow removal equipment, power sprayers, snow blowers, weed cutters).
• Provide flexibility and mobility: travel between multiple locations, work under adverse weather conditions, crowded spaces, and tight time constraints, be available for emergency calls.
• Assist in supervising volunteers when required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education & Experience
  
  • Basic understanding of building maintenance (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, drywall, painting, groundskeeping).
  • Experience with tools for landscaping and general maintenance.
  • Previous construction or maintenance experience.
  • High school diploma or H.S.E. equivalent.

• Maintain physical dexterity to operate computers.

Other Requirements for Employment

• Full‑time 40‑hour schedule, flexible days including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Travel between Wheeler Mission facilities.

• Background check clearance.
• Valid Indiana state‑issued driver’s license; insurability through Wheeler Mission provider.
• 1+ years of sobriety.
