Job summary

Avient Corporation is seeking a Maintenance Technician to oversee work orders and preventive maintenance, ensuring equipment operates at peak efficiency. The role demands troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems, reading schematics, and coordinating parts and tools in a plant setting.

Responsibilities include installs, repairs, and calibration of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, operating shop machinery, and maintaining accurate maintenance logs.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma preferred.
  • Associate’s degree or Licensed Journeyman in lieu of degree or commensurate experience preferred.
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting controls systems, electric components, pneumatic, instrumentation and mechanical devices.
  • Experience in other maintenance fields such as plumbing, refrigeration, carpentry, welding, forklift repair, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Completes electrical projects; design and installs.
  • Troubleshoot electrical problems and correct as required. Read electrical schematics.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical devices in operation; dismantles and repairs parts.
  • Sets up and operates shop machinery (drill press, grinders, band saws, torch, welder).
  • Installs or repairs hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
  • Operates the cooling water system.
  • Orders parts and researches supplies.
  • Maintains inventory of parts and documents work orders.
  • Follows safety guidelines and company policies.

Job description

Position is responsible for complete work order requests to build and repair equipment as quickly and accurately as possible while keeping associated costs to a minimum; and preventive maintenance assignments maintaining all equipment in good operating condition to meet the plant’s goals.

Shift: 7pm to 7am 2 on 2 off, 2 on 2 off, 3 on 3 off

Shift Differential: $2.50 per hour

Responsibilities
  • Completes electrical projects; design and installs.
  • Troubleshoot electrical problems and correct as required. Must be capable of reading electrical schematics.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical devices in operation. Dismantles and examinesdevices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments, repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Sets up and operates shop machinery such as drill press, grinders, band saws, cutting torch, welder. etc. Uses hand tools and pneumatic tools to modify or repair parts and equipment.
  • Installs new or repairs/modify hydraulic and pneumatic equipment as needed.
  • Operates the cooling water system.
  • Researches supplies, parts and machines needed to complete work orders.
  • Orders part on the company computer system.
  • Assists in organizing and maintaining an accurate inventory of parts.
  • Performs and documents work orders and preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Maintains and keeps track of workload and assignments. Completes and maintains all required paperwork, records, maintenance logs, documents, manuals, drawings etc.
  • Supports the vision, mission and guiding principles of the company.
  • Follows applicable Safety, Health and Environmental rules and guidelines while performing any procedure.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, crouching, kneeling, stooping, and climbing of steps and ladders.
  • Must be able use hands to handle and feel objects, or manipulate controls. Talk, see and hear.
  • Typically work is in a plant environment where the noise level is high.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds and occasionally handle up to 250 pounds.
  • The environment is typically dusty and includes many toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Work environment includes many pieces of hazardous moving equipment
  • Requires the use of safety equipment as dictated by the work area (i.e. safety glasses and shoes, ear plugs, respirator, face shield, chemical suit, etc.).
  • Work could be inside or outside and the typical noise level is loud.
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. Frequently exposed to vibration. Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma preferred
  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or Licensed Journeyman in lieu of degree or commensurate experience preferred.
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting controls systems, electric components, pneumatic, instrumentation and mechanical devices. Proven expertise in industrial electrical, including design, sizing, installation and component level troubleshooting.
  • Experience in other fields of maintenance such as plumbing, refrigeration, carpentry, welding, forklift repair, etc. Competent PC (MS Office and Windows) computer skills desired.
