Job summary

Avient Corporation in Illinois is seeking a Maintenance Technician who will complete maintenance assignments to build, repair and maintain equipment in good operating condition as quickly and accurately as possible, while keeping costs to a minimum to help meet plant goals.

You should be multi-skilled and able to contribute to plant maintenance across craft disciplines, with a focus on reducing downtime, improving reliability and supporting preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots mechanical devices in operation, dismantles and examines parts, and replaces defective components.
• Sets up and operates shop machinery (lathe, drill press, grinders, band saws, cutting torch, welder).
• Installs hydraulic and pneumatic equipment or makes modifications.
• Completes projects with minimal guidance, focusing on reducing downtime.
• Improves reliability and uptime with preventive maintenance mindset.
• Operates forklift and hydraulic platform as needed.
• Researches parts and tools for work orders.
• Maintains inventory of parts.
• Maintains and updates maintenance records, logs, manuals, drawings, PM logs.

Pay: $25.32 - $37.98 per hour

Hours: 2:45 pm – 11:15 pm

Days: Monday – Friday

Final compensation within this range may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as geographic location of the position.

Essential Functions

• Troubleshoots mechanical devices in operation, dismantles and examines devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, and adjusts, repairs or replaces defective parts.
• Sets up and operates shop machinery such as lathe, drill press, grinders, band saws, cutting torch, welder, etc. Uses hand tools and pneumatic tools to modify or repair parts and equipment.
• Installs new or repairs/modifies hydraulic and pneumatic equipment as needed.
• Completes projects with minimal guidance, showing a proactive attitude to minimizing equipment downtime and lost production capability.
• Improves reliability and uptime of all equipment, taking a proactive approach to equipment issues with a preventive maintenance mentality.
• Operates forklift and hydraulic working platform as needed.
• Researches supplies, parts and tools needed to complete work orders.
• Assists in identifying and maintaining an accurate inventory of parts.
• Contributes to upkeep and updating of required paperwork such as records, maintenance logs, documents, manuals, drawings, PM logs, etc.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, General Education Diploma (GED)
• Technical School degree or equivalent experience
• Work experience in an industrial operations environment preferred
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, or procedure manuals
• Mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and ability to use conversions, work with different units such as weight, volume, density, distance, etc.

Physical Demands

• Requires standing and sitting for extended periods, talking and listening
• Must be able to walk and use hands; occasionally requires bending, stooping, climbing ladders and stairs
• May occasionally lift, push or pull up to 50 pounds
• Ability to frequently communicate and understand work instructions and information in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment where noise level is loud
• Must detect and discern safety alarms and respond accordingly
• Generally requires use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, hard hat, respiratory protection
• Exposure to outside weather conditions is routine
• May be exposed to extreme heat and humidity and on occasion to dust or fumes
