Job Description

The State University of New York (SUNY) System Administration, located in Albany, NY, has two openings for a Maintenance Assistant - SG09 in Facilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform semi-skilled carpentry activities, including repairing doors, windows, stairs, railings, furniture, locks, and hardware; operate shop machinery; make and assemble furniture; erect and move partitions; assist in building forms for concrete work; and assist in erecting and renovating buildings under supervision.
• Assist in repairing and maintaining locks, including making keys, changing lock combinations, installing locks, and repairing locks.
• Perform painting and decorating tasks, including interior and exterior painting, staining, finishing wood, and spray-painting surfaces.
• Carry out various maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks across trades like carpentry, painting, electrical, masonry, and flooring.
• Perform snow and ice control as needed.

Job Requirements

Two years of full-time maintenance or mechanical work experience under a skilled tradesperson, or completion of a two-year technical school course related to trades, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements

• Knowledge of trade methods, materials, tools, and equipment.
• Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
• Understanding of safety standards and codes.
• Ability to read plans, manuals, and blueprints.
• Ability to perform manual labor and work at heights or in confined spaces.
• Adherence to OSHA safety standards.
