SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of the Maintenance Assistant is to assist in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Maintenance Department in accordance with current, federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility. The role, including part-time Transportation Driver duties, requires a valid driver’s license.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate maintenance services with other departments and report to the Administrator as needed.
- Assist in establishing a preventive maintenance program.
- Repair facility and resident property; coordinate with outside vendors when necessary, ensuring proper completion and supervision of services.
- Identify, evaluate, and classify routine maintenance functions, especially those involving exposure to blood or body fluids.
- Inspect storage, workrooms, and utility closets for upkeep and supply control.
- Participate in facility surveys and develop correction plans for deficiencies.
- Stay informed on economic conditions to recommend adjustments in maintenance services.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident health information and report violations.
- Supervise safety, fire protection, and prevention programs through regular inspections.
- Ensure safety equipment and supplies are used and maintained properly.
- Develop and follow waste disposal policies, including handling infectious wastes and PPE use.
- Conduct periodic rounds to check equipment, ensuring availability and proper functioning.
- Label or tag equipment contaminated with infectious materials appropriately.
- Handle emergencies and ensure proper disposal of medical waste.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of boilers, compressors, generators, and mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems.
- Ability to read blueprints and understand building codes and safety regulations.
- Proficiency in English communication.
- Ability to make independent decisions and interact tactfully with personnel and residents.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to move intermittently and work effectively with residents and staff.
- Meet health requirements, including a medical examination.
- Work with ill, disabled, and elderly individuals, including in emergency evacuations.
- Lift and move a minimum of 25 pounds, and carry weights up to 50 feet.
