We are seeking a proactive and skilled Maintenance Assistant to join our long-term care facility team. Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical equipment, and building interior components to ensure optimal operation.
- Repair and troubleshoot electrical systems, including electrical equipment repair and working with schematics to diagnose issues accurately.
- Conduct plumbing system maintenance and repairs, including fixing leaks, replacing fixtures, and ensuring proper drainage.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment such as programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and ohmmeters to complete maintenance tasks efficiently.
- Carry out carpentry work, painting (including residential painting), and facilities upkeep to maintain the building’s appearance and safety standards.
- Assist with welding tasks when necessary, adhering to safety protocols and technical specifications.
- Support HVAC system repair efforts, including diagnosing issues with HVAC units and performing necessary repairs or replacements.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities using schematics and other documentation tools for future reference.
- Collaborate with team members to supervise or assist in projects related to facilities maintenance, ensuring timely completion.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing staff or resident requests promptly and professionally while maintaining a positive attitude.
Experience
- Proven experience in facilities maintenance or a similar role within a long-term care or residential setting is preferred.
- Strong mechanical knowledge combined with hands-on experience using hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment such as ohmmeters.
- Familiarity with electrical work, plumbing systems, HVAC systems, building interior maintenance, carpentry, welding, and painting is essential.
- Experience working with schematics for electrical or mechanical troubleshooting is highly desirable.
- Supervising or leadership experience in maintenance operations is a plus, demonstrating the ability to oversee projects or mentor team members.
- Knowledge of maintenance, repair & operations (MRO) practices ensures efficient handling of ongoing facility needs.
- Excellent communication skills in English are required to effectively document work orders and collaborate with team members.
