Job summary

San Joaquin Nursing and Rehabilitation is seeking a dependable Maintenance Assistant to join our team. You will help maintain grounds, building, and equipment to support a safe and welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and staff. This is a full-time position reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Typical duties include repairs, safety compliance, and coordinating with nursing staff to minimize disruption while upholding facility policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a 10th-grade education.
  • Previous maintenance or repair experience preferred.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and interpret diagrams and schedules.
  • Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions within assigned responsibilities.
  • Basic math skills, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully with residents, families, coworkers, and visitors.
  • Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and apply new maintenance methods.
  • Commitment to dependable attendance, teamwork, and safe work practices.

Responsibilities

  • Follow daily work assignments and maintenance schedules.
  • Perform routine building and equipment repairs, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plastering, and mechanical tasks, as directed and within your training.
  • Maintain grounds, parking areas, and walkways through trimming, sweeping, and general upkeep.
  • Replace light bulbs, clean windows and screens, and complete other assigned maintenance tasks.
  • Assist with heating and cooling system maintenance according to manufacturer instructions and facility procedures.
  • Coordinate work in resident living areas with nursing staff to minimize disruptions.
  • Promptly report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, accidents, and incidents.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean, organized, and properly stored.
  • Follow safety precautions when using tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Respect residents' privacy, protect confidential information, and notify residents before moving personal belongings.
  • Assist with moving equipment and supplies and with emergency evacuation procedures as needed.
  • Attend required meetings and training and complete additional duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
