Assist in the maintenance of various types of trails, parking access areas for hunting, fishing, and recreational activities, department assets, and infrastructure. Tasks include building and grounds maintenance trades such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, sawyer work, mowing, landscaping, equipment operation, and snow removal. Candidates may operate diverse equipment and perform maintenance and repair on motor equipment. Work locations may vary across the working circle during the day.
Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under a skilled tradesperson, or completion of a two-year technical school course related to trades, or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program is preferred, including specific coursework hours as detailed.
Candidates must possess a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle operated when required.
This is an hourly appointment funded through 11/30/2025, with a possibility of extension. Work schedule, duties, and travel requirements vary and will be discussed at the interview. The role requires a valid driver’s license or the ability to meet transportation needs, use of personal protective equipment, ability to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote and adverse weather conditions, travel, overtime, overnight stays, and availability for emergency response and after-hours emergencies.
